The Buffalo Bills and Carolina Panthers face off on Friday in an NFL preseason showdown at Bank of America Stadium. When these two teams faced off in December of 2021 it was the Bills that secured the 31-14 victory.
The Bills have taken the preseason very seriously this season, and they have looked really good. In the first game of the preseason, the Bills were able to beat the Indianapolis Colts 27-24, and in the last game against the Denver Broncos, they were able to secure a 42-15 victory. In that last game Case Keenum completed 16 of his 18 passes for 192 yards and a touchdown. It sure looks like has the backup quarterback job locked up. Josh Allen also played a drive in the last game and he completed 3 of his 3 passes for 45 yards and a touchdown. Allen looks ready for hte season and I would be surprised if he played in this game. Khalil Shakir also had a big game catching three passes for 59 yards.
On the other side of this matchup is the Panthers who had a quarterback battle coming into the preseason, but all it took was two games to decide that Baker Mayfield would start the season under center. In the first game of the preseason, the Panthers beat the Washington Commanders 23-21, and in the last game, they lost to the New England Patriots 20-10. In the last game, Mayfield and Sam Darnold didn’t even play. Matt Corral completed 8 of his 15 passes for 58 yards. Corral broke his foot though and is now on injured reserve. Phillip Walker completed 8 of his 15 passes for 107 yards, zero touchdowns, and two interceptions. I also wouldn’t expect to see many starters to play in this game including Christian McCaffrey.
The Bills are 4-1-1 against the spread in their last six games overall. Carolina is 7-19-1 against the spread in their last 27 home games. The over is 4-1 in the Bills last five road games. The over is 6-2 in the Panthers last eight games. The Bills are 4-0 against the spread in their last four games against the Panthers.
The Bills have looked good so far in the preseason, and I expect the Bills to get good quarterback play in this game, no matter who is under center. The Panthers only scored 10 points in the last game and they are going to really struggle to score in this game. Look for the Bills offense to be good here, and Buffalo will cover the spread.
