The Green Bay Packers and Kansas City Chiefs face off on Thursday in an NFL preseason game at Arrowhead Stadium. When these two teams faced off in November 2021 it was the Chiefs that secured the 13-7 victory.
The Green Bay Packers have dreams of another Super Bowl this season, but so far this preseason, most of the starters have been resting. It’s unclear at this point if Aaron Rodgers is going to play in this game, but it’s hard to imagine that he does. Last season, Rodgers didn’t play in the preseason, and the team probably won’t want to risk injury in this game. In the first game against the San Francisco 49ers, the Packers were defeated 28-21. In the last game of the preseason, the Packers were able to beat the New Orleans Saints 20-10. In the last game, the Packers leaned mostly on Jordan Love. He completed 12 of his 24 passes for 113 yards and a touchdown. Danny Etling completed his only pass for zero yards. Etling also rushed four times for 48 yards and a touchdown. Juwann Winfree caught three passes for 41 yards.
On the other side of this matchup is the Chiefs, who have played their starters this preseason, and I would expect Patrick Mahomes will play a bit in this game. In the first game of the preseason, the Chiefs lost to the Chicago Bears 19-14 and in the last game against the Washington Commanders, they were able to win 24-14. Mahomes completed 12 of his 19 passes for 162 yards and two touchdowns. Shane Buechele completed 8 of his 15 passes for 70 yards. Dustin Crum also completed 3 of his 3 passes for 27 yards. Justin Watson caught two passes for 53 yards.
The Packers are 6-1-1 against the spread in their last eight Thursday games. The Chiefs are 6-1 against the spread in their last seven home games. The Packers are 4-1 against the spread in their last five meetings against the Chiefs.
I expect Mahomes to play in this game, and I expect for the couple of drives that he does play, he is going to score touchdowns. Jordan Love and the Packers' offense isn’t going to do enough, and that is going to be the difference as the Chiefs get the job done. Turnovers have been an issue for Love, and that is going to be an issue again here. Back the Chiefs against the spread.
