The Washington Commanders and Kansas City Chiefs face off on Saturday in an NFL preseason Week 2 NFL showdown at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs have won 10 of their 11 games all-time against Washington in the Super Bowl era.
The Washington Commanders have high expectations for this season and this preseason game could give a good indication of where this team is at right now in terms of reaching those goals. In the first preseason game, the Commanders made a late comeback against the Carolina Panthers because of Sam Howell. After taking the lead the Panthers kicked a field goal and they ended up losing 23-21. Howell completed 9 of his 16 passes for 145 yards. Carson Wentz also completed 10 of his 13 passes for 74 yards. Commanders coach Ron Rivera has given the indication that the starters should play a solid chunk of this game.
On the other side of this matchup is the Kansas City Chiefs who return most of last year's team, and the goal of the preseason for them is to just try to come out of it healthy. In the first preseason game against the Chicago Bears, the Chiefs jumped out to a 14-0 zero lead. In the second half, with the starters out the defense really struggled, and they were defeated 19-14. In the first game, Patrick Mahomes, Shane Buechele, Dustin Crume, and Chad Henne all took snaps under center. The Chiefs are expected to play well into the second quarter so it wouldn’t be shocking to see the offense find success again in the first half. In this game, the Chiefs need the defense to be better late though to secure the win.
I don’t expect a whole lot of defense to be played by either team in this game. The Commanders are going to find success early scoring, and I also expect the Chiefs to score 14 or 21 points in the first half. In the second half, the Chiefs' defense again will really struggle, and this game is going to go over the total. Back the over to cash with ease.
