The Los Angeles Rams will host the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday night in this NFC West vs AFC West preseason matchup. This will take place at Sofi Stadium in LA and this will be the preseason opener for both teams. The Rams are the defending superbowl champions coming into this season. 

These teams also met to open the 2021 preseason, with the Chargers winning a 13-6 defensive struggle.

The Rams are among the betting favorites to lift the Lombardi Trophy again this season as they are bringing back many from last year's core. For that reason, McVay is hesitant about playing any starters during the preseason. Stafford is currently nursing an elbow injury so he will surely not play. With that in account backup John Wolford, third stringer Bryce Perkins are next up in the rotation.

Jake Funk will be trying to climb the depth chart at running back and will feature prominently after turning in a strong preseason in 2021.

Last season the Los Angeles Rams averaged 372.1 yards on offense and 344.9 yards given up on defense. 

Although it was a great year, the Chargers fell heartbreakingly short of earning a playoff berth last season in the first year under head coach Brandon Staley.

Justin Herbert was exceptional at time last season and this team will be a strong contender this year as he is expected to progress even further. The quarterback rotation will be veteran backup Chase Daniel, former North Dakota State standout Easton Stick, and Brandon Peters, an undrafted rookie out of Illinois.

Last season the Los Angeles Chargers averaged 390.2 yards on offense and 360.1 yards given up on defense. 

The over is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings and  is 4-0 in Rams last 4 Saturday games.

The Rams are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games on fieldturf. The Chargers are 20-41-1 ATS in their last 62 home games.

This was not a pretty preseason matchup last year and it seems the same will hold true this year with players sitting due to injury and other reasons.  The Rams will likely be missing more players, so I have to take the Chargers in this one.
