The Kansas City Chiefs will play the Chicago Bears in a preseason game at Solder Field in Chicago, Illinois on Saturday afternoon.
The Kansas City Chiefs were 12-5 during the regular season last year and lost in the AFC Championship Game by a score of 27-24 in overtime to the Cincinnati Bengals. Kansas City will be excited to get back onto the field and forget about blowing their big lead in last year’s AFC Title Game. Andy Reid has said that his starters will play for about a quarter before being pulled, meaning we will see Patrick Mahomes in this game. After Mahomes is done for the night, we should see Chad Henne, Dustin Crum, and Shane Buechele. One player to watch for Kansas City is wide receiver Skyy Moore, who is a rookie and has looked very good in camp.
The Chicago Bears were 6-11 during the regular season last year and did not make the playoffs. Chicago is entering this season with a new head coach, Matt Eberflus, who will be trying to make a good first impression at Soldier Field. Justin Fields should start this game and play a series or two before giving way to Trevor Siemian and Nathan Peterman. Chicago doesn’t have a ton of “great” skill position players, leaving the door open for anyone that can impress during these games. One player to watch for Chicago is wide receiver Tajae Sharpe, who is looking to play his way into a higher profile spot heading into the season.
Kansas City is 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games on grass and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games. The over is 4-0 in Kansas City’s last 4 road games. Chicago is 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games. The under is 20-7 in Chicago’s last 27 home games. The road team is 4-0 ATS in these two teams last 4 head to head meetings.
While this game should be entertaining for about the first quarter while the starters play, it has the makings to be a slower paced game once they are pulled. Kansas City is looking for players to step up and fill voids in their skill positions, while Chicago is looking for just about anyone to get excited about. I think we see a lower scoring game here; especially once the starting quarterbacks are pulled. I am taking the under and also like the Chiefs to win on the road.
