The Miami Dolphins and New Orleans Saints face off in an NFL showdown on Monday Night at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. When these two teams faced off in August of 2019 it was the Dolphins that won 16-13.
The Dolphins come into this game with a 7-7 record and they have gone 7-6-1 against the spread. In the last game against the Jets the defense gave up 24 points, but the offense scored 31 points and that was enough to come away with the victory. In the last game running back Duke Johnson 22 carries for 107 yards and two touchdowns and he looks to be a welcome addition to the team. Miami is averaging 20.36 points while their defense is giving up 22.3 points per game. The defense didn’t look great in the last game and will need to be better in this game. This is a game the Dolphins really should win.
On the other side of this matchup is the New Orleans Saints who sit with a 7-7 record overall and they have gone 7-7 against the spread. In the last Saints last game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the offense could only manage nine points. But the defense was lights out, and that was enough for a victory. The Saints are averaging 22.4 points while their defense is giving up 20.4 points per game. The big issue for the Saints in this game is COVID issues. Taysom Hill and Trevor Sieman are both out for the Saints. Ian Book is expected to get the start and Blake Bortles has been signed as the backup quarterback. Book was drafted in the 4th round after having a strong career at Notre Dame.
The Dolphins are 5-1-1 against the spread in their last seven games. The Saints are 1-4 against the spread in their last five home games. The under is 5-2 in Miami’s last seven games overall. The over is 7-3 in the Saints last 10 Monday games.
Book isn’t the answer for the Saints, and they are going to have some major issues moving the ball. They couldn’t score last week, and they aren’t going to magically break out this week. Look for the Dolphins to score at least 20 points, and that will be enough to get the job done. Back the Dolphins against the spread.
