The Tennessee Titans will travel to Gillette Stadium to take on the New England Patriots this Sunday afternoon in NFL action.
The Tennessee Titans had their 6-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 8-3 on the season after being defeated by the Houston Texans, 22-13, this past Sunday. Tennessee struggled with turnovers against Houston and could not fight back after a 5-yard TD run by the Texans Tyrod Taylor gave the Texans a 19-0 lead midway through the 3rd quarter. Tennessee outgained Houston by a 420-190 margin and lost the turnover battle by a 5-0 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Titans was WR Nick Westbrook-Ikhine who had 7 receptions for 107 yards.
On the season, Tennessee is averaging 26.5 ppg on 373.7 total yards per game (244.7 passing yds/g; 129.0 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Tennessee has been led by QB Ryan Tannehill who has completed 66.6% of his passes for 2681 yards (259.4 yds/g), 13 TD, & 12 INT. Tennessee has been without their start RB Derrick Henry due to a foot injury, and the RB duties have been split between D’Onta Foreman (23 att, 84 yards), Adrian Peterson (27 att, 82 yards, TD), & Dontrell Hilliard (7 att, 35 yards). The top receiving threats for the Titans have been A.J. Brown (46 rec, 615 yards, 3 TD), Julio Jones (21 rec, 336 yards), & Nick Westbrook-Ikhine (23 rec, 272 yards, 2 TD).
Defensively, Tennessee is allowing their opponents to average 23.1 ppg on 367.9 total yards per game (270.7 passing yds/g; 97.2 rushing yds/g).
The New England Patriots won their 5th straight game and improved to 7-4 on the season after defeating the Atlanta Falcons, 25-0, on November 18th. New England dominated Atlanta behind another strong defensive effort and had no trouble pulling away for the victory after taking a 13-0 lead into halftime. New England outgained Atlanta by a 308-165 margin and won the turnover battle by a 4-1 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Patriots was LB Kyle Van Noy who had 8 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 INT and a TD.
On the season, New England is averaging 27.3 ppg on 368.5 total yards per game (252.2 passing yds/g; 116.3 rushing yds/g). Offensively, New England has been led by the backfield duo of Damien Harris (143 att, 603 yards, 7 TD) & Rhamondre Stevenson (67 att, 305 yards, 3 TD). QB Mac Jones has completed 70.2% of his passes for 2540 yards (236.4 yds/g), 14 TD, & 8 INT. The top receiving threats for the Patriots have been Kendrick Bourne (37 rec, 562 yards, 3 TD), Jakobi Meyers (54 rec, 522 yards, 1 TD), Nelson Agholor (29 rec, 396 yards, 3 TD), & Hunter Henry (33 rec, 378 yards, 7 TD).
Defensively, New England is holding their opponents to an average of 16.1 ppg on 331.4 total yards per game (229.6 passing yds/g; 101.7 rushing yds/g).
The Titans are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall, however, are just 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 games after scoring less than 15 points in their previous game. The Patriots are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games overall & 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. AFC opponents.
Tennessee might come into this game with an 8-3 record, however, this is a team that just isn’t the same without Derrick Henry and after seeing the offense struggle so much against Houston, it’s hard to imagine that they are going to find success on the road against a New England defense that has made it’s case as the toughest defense in the NFL. New England has a balanced offensive attack with a good RB game and a QB that hasn’t made many mistakes and as I think Bill Belichick is going to want to get some revenge after Mike Verbal and Tennessee knocked the Patriots out of the playoffs in 2019, I think the Patriots win this by double-digits and cover this spread. Good Luck!
