The New York Jets will visit the Indianapolis Colts for a Thursday Night Football showdown from Lucas Oil Stadium. Both teams are coming off of three point games. For the Jets, it was in a win against the Bengals, and for the Colts it was in a loss to the Titans in overtime.
The Jets possess a mediocre passing offense, averaging 230 yards per game. Their run game is what seems to be holding them back as they are ranked last in the league in rushing offense. Overall their offense only averages 16.3 points per game. They are currently going with Mike White under center as QB Zach Wilson is still injured. White looked great in his first NFL start as he completed 37 of 45 passes for 405 yards and three touchdowns.
The over is 4-0 in the Jets last 4 games overall and 4-1 in the Jets last 5 Thursday games. The over is also 7-3 in the last ten matchups. I expect the Colts to score a bunch against a Jets defense that gives up almost 30 points per game. The Jets will need to respond with offense of their own and this should help the game go over the total of 44.
The Colts are 3-5 on the season and rank 12th in rushing offense with 122 yards per game. Indianapolis is averaging 25 points per game compared to the Jet’s 16. After losing at home on Sunday in overtime, they look to cover this 14 point spread against the Jets.
Carson Wentz is 168 of 270 passing for 1,926 yards. He has 14 touchdowns to three interceptions in his resurgent season with the Colts. It’s important to also note that two of his interceptions came in the final minutes of last week’s game.
Although, the Jet’s have looked terrible. I believe that Mike White has potential to bring some new energy to this squad. Unfortunately for the Jets, their issues spread beyond the QB situation. With a virtually non existent ground game, I expect them to struggle to generate yards on the ground against this Colts defense. A lot of pressure will be on the second time starter in White.
The Colts are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Jets are 0-4 ATS vs. a team with a losing record and 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games. At 14.5 this line is too much for me. The Colts win, but I think the Jets have the ability to keep it close with the new QB injecting life into this offense. All of the previously mentioned Jets trends come from Zach Wilson’s time at QB. I’ll take the points with the Jets as that’s too many for the Colts.
