The Philadelphia Eagles will travel to Ford Field to take on the Detroit Lions this Saturday afternoon in NFL action.
The Philadelphia Eagles lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 2-5 on the season after being defeated by the Las Vegas Raiders, 33-22, this past Sunday. Philadelphia struggled defensively against the Raiders and could not fight back after a 1-yard TD reception by Bryan Edwards gave Las Vegas a 30-7 lead with 6:15 left in the 3rd quarter. Philadelphia was outgained by Las Vegas by a 442-358 margin and lost the turnover battle by a 2-1 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Eagles was QB Jalen Hurts who completed 18 of 34 passes for 236 yards & 2 TD while also rushing for 61 yards.
On the season, Philadelphia is averaging 22.7 ppg on 361.9 total yards per game (245.1 passing yds/g; 116.7 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Philadelphia has been led by QB Jalen Hurts who has completed 61.2% of his passes for 1716 yards (296.7 passing yds/g), 10 TD & 4 INT while also leading the Eagles in rushing with 361 yards & 5 TD on 66 carries. The top receiving threats for the Eagles have been DeVonta Smith (32 rec, 406 yards, TD), Quez Watkins (18 rec, 348 yards), Dallas Goedert (18 rec, 286 yards, 2 TD), & Jalen Reagor (19 rec, 165 yards, 2 TD). In the backfield for the Eagles has been Miles Sanders who has 300 rushing yards on 63 carries.
Defensively, Philadelphia is allowing their opponents to average 26.4 ppg on 371.0 total yards per game (238.0 passing yds/g; 133.0 rushing yds/g).
The Detroit Lions are still searching for their first win of the season as the Lions fell to 0-7 on the season after being defeated by the Los Angeles Rams, 28-19, this past Sunday. Detroit played well against the talented Rams and held a 19-17 lead entering the 4th quarter, however, the Lions defense struggled down the stretch and the Rams were able to take the lead for good on a 5-yard TD reception by Cooper Kupp with 13:59 left in the game. Detroit outgained Los Angeles by a 415-374 margin, however, lost the turnover battle by a 2-0 margin. Leading the way for the Lions was RB D’Andre Swift who combined for 144 total yards (48 rushing; 96 receiving) & 1 TD.
On the season, Detroit is averaging 18.3 ppg on 354.0 total yards per game (255.7 passing yds/g; 98.3 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Detroit has been led by RB D’Andre Swift who has rushed for 262 yards & 3 TD on 78 carries while also leading the Lions in receiving with 42 receptions for 391 yards & 2 TD. QB Jared Goff has completed 66.1% of his passes for 1773 yards (264.1 yds/g), 8 TD, & 6 INT. RB Jamal Williams has been the leading rusher for the Lions with 312 yards & 2 TD on 71 carries. The top receiving threats for the Lions have been T.J. Hockenson (38 rec, 359 yards, 2 TD), Kalif Raymond (26 rec, 334 yards, 2 TD), & Amon-Ra St. Brown (24 rec, 204 yards).
Defensively, Detroit is allowing their opponents to average 28.6 ppg on 399.6 total yards per game (279.6 passing yds/g; 120.0 rushing yds/g).
The Eagles are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 road games and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games as a road favorite. The Lions are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games after allowing more than 350 total yards in their previous game and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games on fieldturf.
Detroit is still looking for their first win of the season, however, the Lions have been competitive this season as they have had close losses to Baltimore & Minnesota and gave the Rams all they could handle on the road. Philadelphia has gotten some solid play from Jalen Hurts, however, this is an offense that lacks many weapons, and their defense certainly didn’t look great last week on the road against the Raiders. Detroit continues to play hard for first year head coach Dan Campbell and as the Lions offense should be able to have some success in this one, I think this game stays competitive and that the play here is to take the Lions and the points. Good Luck!
