The New Orleans Saints and Seattle Seahawks face off on Monday Night Football a key NFC showdown at Lumen Field. When these two teams last faced off in 2019 it was the Saints that won 33-27.
The Saints have been a bit inconsistent this season sitting with a 3-2 record overall but they are coming off a victory over Washington in their last game. The Saints offense was strong scoring 33 points, and that was enough to come away with the victory. The Saints are averaging 25.4 points while the defense is giving up 18.2 points per game. Jameis Winston has thrown for 892 yards, 12 touchdowns, and three interceptions. As long as Winston can limit the turnovers, that will really help the chances of New Orleans winning this game. The defense also is going to need to try and force a turnover or two, and help the offense.
On the other side of this matchup is the Seattle Seahawks who really have their backs against the wall right now because of injuries. Both Russell Wilson and running back Chris Carson are out for this game and foreseeable future. The Seahawks are averaging 23.3 points while the defense is giving up 24.8 points per game. With Geno Smith starting in the last game against the Pittsburgh Steelers they forced overtime, but was defeated. Smith completed 23 of his 32 passes for 209 yards and a touchdown. Smith needs to take good care of the ball, and not turnover the ball in this game.
The Saints are 9-4 against the spread in their last 13 games against the NFC. The Seahawks are 1-4 against the spread in their last five games against the NFC. The Saints are 5-2 against the spread in the last seven meetings.
I don’t trust Geno Smith, and he will really struggle against the Saints defense. Look for the Saints to force a couple of those turnovers, and the Seahawks lack of scoring will be the difference. Back the Saints to win and cover the spread. In terms of the total, I believe this will be a lower scoring game that stays under the total.
