The Indianapolis Colts and San Francisco 49ers face off on Sunday night football in an NFL showdown at Levi’s Stadium. When these two teams faced off in 2017, It was the Colts that won 26-23 in overtime.
The Colts come into this game with a 2-4 record overall but they are coming off an impressive 31-3 victory over the Houston Texans. Carson Wentz had a big game throwing for 223 yards and two touchdowns. The Colts are averaging 23.2 points while the defense is giving up 21.8 points per game. Wentz has thrown for 1,545 yards, nine touchdowns, and one interception. Jonathan Taylor has rushed for 472 yards and four touchdowns. In this game, the Colts need the defense to lock down, or this could be a long game.
On the other side of this matchup is the San Francisco 49ers who sit with a 2-3 record and they have lost three games in a row. In the last game against the Cardinals the defense was good, giving up only 17 points, but the offense could only manage 10 points and that led to the loss. The 49ers are averaging 23.4 points while the defense is giving up 23.8 points per game. Jimmy Garoppolo is probable to play in this game, and it looks like he should get the start. It wouldn’t be shocking if Trey Lance also gets some playing time in this game. In this game for the 49ers, it’s going to be about the defense stepping up, and making life tough on Wentz.
The Colts are 4-1 against the spread in their last 5 games overall. The 49ers are 4-10 against the spread in their last 14 games on grass. The over is 5-1 in the Colts last 6 road games. The road team is 4-1 against the spread in the last five meetings.
I don’t trust the 49ers to score, and Carson Wentz seems to be finally hitting his stride. Look for the Colts offense to find success, and that is going to be enough to keep it close. The road team is 4-1 against the spread and that number will move to 5-1. Back the Colts to cover the spread.
