The Las Vegas Raiders and Pittsburgh Steelers face off on Sunday in a Week 2 NFL showdown at Heinz Field. The last time these two teams faced off was in 2018 and the Raiders won that game 24-21.
The Las Vegas Raiders were forced to play overtime in the first game, but they still beat the Baltimore Ravens 33-27. The Raiders scored 17 points in the 4th quarter to force overtime. Quarterback Derek Carr had a big game, completing 34 of his 56 passes for 435 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. On offense, the running game could improve a little bit. Josh Jacobs had two touchdowns, but he only finished with 34 yards on 10 carries. Wide receiver Darren Waller had a big game catching 10 passes for 105 yards and a touchdown. On defense, Maxx Crosby spent most of the game in the backfield, and in this game he needs to put pressure on Ben Roethlisberger. The Raiders did struggle to slow down Lamar Jackson’s running, but they won’t have to worry about a mobile quarterback in this game.
On the other side of this matchup is the Pittsburgh Steelers who went on the road in their first game to Buffalo and were able to beat the Bills 23-16. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger completed 18 of his 32 passes for 188 yards and a touchdown. Rookie running back Najee Harris had 16 carries for 45 yards. On defense the Steelers spent a lot of time in the backfield. T.J. Watt had two sacks and Cameron Hayward also had a sack. In this game, the Steelers need their defense to be strong, and make Carr make some dumb decisions for the Raiders.
The Raiders are 4-1 against the spread in their last five games in September. The Steelers are 5-1 against the spread in their last six games played in September. The over is 7-0 in the Raiders last seven games against the AFC. The over is 4-1 in the Steelers last five games overall. The home team is 4-1 against the spread in the last five meetings played between the two teams.
The Steelers defense slowed down Josh Allen, and they should be able to do the same for Derek Carr. The Steelers offense will also find success against the Raiders defense, especially through the air. The home team has dominated this series, and the Steelers are going to cover this spread.
