The Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Chargers face off in a Week 2 NFL showdown at SoFi Stadium. These two teams last faced off in 2017 and the Chargers were able to win 28-6.
The Dallas Cowboys opened up their season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and they were competitive but lost 31-29. Quarterback Dak Prescott was impressive in his first game back from injury, completing 42 of his 58 passes for 403 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. Ezekiel Elliott didn’t find a whole lot of success on the ground having only 11 carries for 33 yards. Last season the Cowboys defense was bad, and it doesn’t look like they are going to be better in this game. In the first game, Tom Brady threw for 379 and four touchdowns. The Cowboys did slow down the run, and they need to try and make the Chargers one-dimensional.
On the other side of this matchup is the Los Angeles Chargers who opened up their season against Washington. Quarterback Justin Herbert had a big game completing 31 of his 47 passes for 337 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Running back Austin Ekeler had 15 carries for 57 yards and a touchdown. Herbert has a few key weapons outside in Keenan Allen and Mike Williams. Allen in the last game had nine receptions for 100 yards. The defense gave up only 16 points against Washington, but this is going to be a much bigger test. If the defense can force a turnover or two, the Chargers will be in good shape.
The Cowboys are 4-1 against the spread in their last five games overall. The Chargers are 5-0 against the spread in their last five games overall. The over is 6-2 in the Cowboys last eight games overall. The road team is 4-1 against the spread in the last five meetings between the Cowboys and Chargers.
The Cowboys are on the road, but they should still be favored in this game. Dak Prescott is going to have another big game against the Chargers, and I expect he finishes with at least three touchdowns. The road team is 4-1 against the spread in the last five meetings between the two teams. The Cowboys will cover the spread. I also am throwing a few dollars on the Cowboys to win outright.
