New York Giants at Washington Football Team: 9/16/21 NFL Picks and Predictions
The New York Giants and Washington Football Team face off on Thursday in a Week 2 NFL showdown at FedExField.
There were a lot of questions about the New York Giants heading into the season and after Week1, it seems there might be even more questions. The New York Giants faced off with the Denver Broncos, and the home team didn’t look good as they were defeated 27-13. During the preseason the Giants had issues moving the football Daniel Jones played decent throwing for 267 yards and a touchdown. The biggest issue for the Giants was with the running back. Jones was the leading rusher with 27 yards and a touchdown. Saquon Barkley is back from injury but he didn’t look good in the last game finishing with 10 carries for 26 yards. Wide receiver Sterling Shepard had a big game catching 7 passes for 113 yards and a touchdown. On defense, the Giants really struggled against the pass and rush and that led to the 27 points given up.
On the other side of this matchup is the Washington Football Team who opened up their season with a 20-16 defeat at the hands of the Los Angeles Chargers. Ryan Fitzpatrick went down with a hip injury in that game and will be out an extended period of time. Replacing him is Taylor Heinicke and in the first game, he completed 11 of his 15 passes for 122 yards and a touchdown. Running back Antonio Gibson rushed 20 times for 90 yards, but he suffered a shoulder injury, and it’s unclear if he will be able to go in this game. If he can’t go, expect Jaret Patterson and JD McKissic to have bigger roles. The defense is the strength of this team, and in this game, they need to try and put pressure on the Giants' offense, especially Jones to make him make quick decisions.
The Giants are 6-1 against the spread in their last seven games against the NFC. The Washington Football Team is 1-5 against the spread in their last six games as a home favorite. The under is 5-0 in the GIants' last five games against the NFC. The under is 7-1 in Washington Football Team’s last eight home games. The under is 20-8 in the last 28 meetings played between the two teams.
These are two quarterbacks, who don’t have a whole lot of firepower, and points are going to be very hard to come by in this game. The Giants scored only 13 points in the opening game while Washington only scored 16 points. I don’t expect either team to go over their Week 1 total for their offense, and the under is going to cash.
