The Philadelphia Eagles face the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium for an NFL Preseason Week 3 matchup.
The Philadelphia Eagles are 0-2 so far this preseason and are coming off a 35-0 blowout loss to the New England Patriots. Quarterback Jalen Hurts did not play in that game as he was out with an illness. Hurts should be back in the lineup against the Jets and will more than likely see a good amount of snaps at the start of the game. Backup quarterback, Joe Flacco, had a rough night against the Patriots as he threw 10/17 passes for 83 yards and an interception. Overall, the Eagles have not been sharp so far this preseason. The secondary has allowed more than 250 passing yards to both the Steelers and the Patriots, which was a major concern heading into the season. The Eagles have allowed a combined 59 points to their two preseason opponents. The Eagles have also struggled to establish a ground game, as the team has managed less than 85 total rushing yards in each of their losses thus far.
The New York Jets have had quite the successful preseason so far as they are currently 2-0. The Jets defeated the Green Bay Packers by the final score of 23-14 at Lambeau Field. The Jets have made it clear that #2 overall pick Zach Wilson is going to be the #1 quarterback on the team from the get-go. Wilson had a fantastic showing in his last game against Green Bay, throwing for 128 yards on 9/11 passing and two passing touchdowns. As far as potential starting running backs, the Jets have plenty of options. Michael Carter, the rookie from North Carolina, saw the most carries in last week's game. Carter turned 10 attempts into 52 yards for a nice 5.2 yards per carry outing. The Jets' starting defensive group was not the sharpest in the first half, but in the second half, the Packers were not able to do much of anything offensively and were held off of the scoreboard.
The Jets are finally playing with some confidence. Zach Wilson has a lot of work to do but thus far, he has looked to be the answer. I think the Eagles are in trouble here as their backups defensively have not played well and even the starting group has allowed plenty of passing/rushing yards in the past two weeks. I will take the Jets here and lay the lumber.
