The New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles face off on Thursday in an NFL preseason showdown at Lincoln Financial Field. Both of these teams have been involved in joint practices.
The New England Patriots opened up their preseason facing off against the Washington Football Team, and the Patriots were able to come away with the victory. The Patriots used 13 points in the 4th quarter to pace them to a 22-13 victory. Mac Jones got the most playing time in the first game completing 13 of his 19 passes for 87 yards. Jones is still in a quarterback battle with Cam Newton for the starting quarterback job, and all eyes will be on both of those players in this game. It might be more about what Newton does if he can hold off Jones who is making a strong push to win the job.
On the other side of this matchup is the Philadelphia Eagles who faced off with the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first game and they were defeated 24-16. Jalen Hurts didn’t play a whole lot in the first game, rather it was Joe Flacco who played most of the game. Flacco completed 10 of his 17 passes for 178 yards and a touchdown. The running game didn’t have a whole lot of production, and that is going to need to be better in this game. The defense did have some issues in the first game stopping the pass, and in this game, they are going to need the defense to step up.
The Patriots are 1-4 against the spread in their last five road games. The Eagles are 4-0 against the spread in their last four home games. The underdog is 5-2 against the spread in the last five meetings played between the two teams. The road team is 5-0 against the spread in the last five meetings played between the Patriots and Eagles.
I expect both teams are going to find offensive success in this game and that is going to lead to this game being a shootout. Look for a high-scoring game that goes over the total. In terms of the side, it’s a lean to the Patriots led by Jones to cover the spread, but that’s a lean.
