The Denver Broncos and Minnesota Vikings face off Saturday in a preseason NFL showdown at US Bank Stadium. There will be joint practices heading into this game, which could lead to some intense battles on the field.
The Denver Broncos are coming off a disappointing 2020 season, and they have all kinds of questions heading into the camp. Drew Lock looks like he will still be the starter this season, but with a strong preseason, maybe former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater could win the job. This game is going to be a great chance for some of the younger wide receivers to get some playing time. Courtland Sutton and Tim Patrick are both dealing with injuries and it’s hard to imagine they will go in this game. The hope is the defense is the strength of this Broncos team, and if they want to win this game, the defense is going to need to be good.
On the other side of this matchup is the Minnesota Vikings who have dealt with COVID issues during training camp, but everything looks to be good to go in this game. Kirk Cousins is the team’s starting quarterback but the backup quarterback is where it gets interesting. Kellen Mond was drafted in the 3rd round, but that doesn’t mean the backup job is his. The roster also has Jake Browning and Nate Stanely who are competing for the backup job, and a spot on the roster. On defense, the Vikings have a lot of new pieces including Bashaud Breeland and Patrick Peterson.
The Broncos are 2-6 against the spread in their last eight games as a favorite. The Vikings are 0-7 against the spread in their last seven games overall. The over is 3-1-1 in the last five meetings played between the two teams. The underdog is 4-0 in the last four meetings played between the Broncos and Vikings.
The Broncos are going to get good quarterback play in this game, and that will be the difference in this game. This is going to be a lower-scoring game that the Broncos are able to cover the spread in.
