The Buffalo Bills and Detroit Lions face off Friday in a preseason NFL showdown at Ford Field. These are two teams who have a little different expectations about this season.
The expectations are high for this Buffalo Bills team heading into the 2021 season, after so much success during the 2020 season. The Bills won the division last season and finished the regular season with a 13-3 record. The stars of this team on offense are Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs are expected to have big seasons again this year, but I wouldn’t expect to see a whole lot of them in this game. All eyes in this game for the Bills will be on Mitchell Trubisky and Jake Fromm who are battling for the backup job. There seems to be a lot of positive things coming out about Trubisky heading into this game. On defense the Bills are excited about the return of Star Lotulelei who opted out of the 2020 season because of COVID.
On the other side of this matchup is the Detroit Lions who made a lot of big changes during the offseason. In, is Dan Campbell who’s first time as a head coach in the NFL didn’t work out, but the Lions hope it will be different this time around. The Lions also traded away Matthew Stafford to the Detroit Lions, and in return, they got Jared Goff. The big battle in camp though is the backup job with David Blough and Tim Boyle The biggest problem for this Lions team though is they have all kinds of question marks. The offense does have some playmakers, but the defense has some major issues that need to be filled.
Buffalo is 5-1 against the spread in their last six games as a favorite. The Lions are 5-11 against the spread in their last 16 games played on field turf. The underdog is 4-1 against the spread in the last five meetings played between the Bills and Lions. The under is 5-0 in the last five meetings played between the two teams.
The Detroit Lions starters aren’t great, and their backups are even worse. The Bills are going to get strong quarterback play in this game, and that is going to lead to the Bills getting the job done. Back the Bills against the spread.
