The Washington Football Team and Philadelphia Eagles face off on Sunday Night Football in a Week 17 NFL showdown at Lincoln Financial Field.
For the Washington Football Team, it’s very simple, if they win they will be in the playoffs, but if they are defeated, they will be eliminated. Coming into this game the Washington Football team sit with a 6-9 record overall and they have lost two straight games. The big question for Washington heading into this game is who will be under center. Alex Smith has sat out the last two games because of a leg injury but if he is healthy enough to go in this game, he will no doubt be under. Dwayne Haskins looked terrible in the last game against the Carolina Panthers and he was replaced by Taylor Heinicke. Heinicke actually postponed exams at Old Dominion to play for Washington, and there seems to be a chance he could be starting with the playoffs on the line. Heinicke will get the start if Smith isn’t able to go. On the season, Washington is averaging 21 points per game while their defense is giving up 21 points per game. In this game the defense is going to need to step up.
On the other side of this matchup is the Philadelphia Eagles who are eliminated from playoff contention but they can still play the role of the spoiler. The Eagles have lost two games in a row including their last game against the Dallas Cowboys. The Eagles were leading against the Cowboys but in the second game the offense couldn’t get anything going and that led to the defeat. In the last game Hurts completed 53.8 percent of his passes for 342 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. There were some growing pains for Hurts, but it’s hard to imagine the team would go back to Carson Wentz at this point for this game. On the season the Eagles are averaging 21.3 points per game while the defense is giving up 26.5 points per game.
The under is 8-0 in Washington’s last eight games on grass. The Eagles are 1-7 against the spread in their last eight games as a favorite. The under is 21-8 in the Eagles last 29 home games. The favorite is 6-2 against the spread in the last eight meetings played between the two teams.
I expect both teams are going to struggle to score in this game and that is going to keep the total low. Look for a low scoring game that stays well under the total.
