The New Orleans Saints face the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, January 3rd at Bank of America Stadium for an NFL football matchup.
The New Orleans Saints are coming off a 52-33 win over the Minnesota Vikings in their last game on Christmas Day, December 25th. The Saints torched a weak Vikings defense all game long, as RB Alvin Kamara punched in six total touchdowns in an offensive explosion by New Orleans. The Saints are now 11-4 and have snapped their nagging two-game losing streak. The Saints have already clinched the NFC South division over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but still have a chance to clinch the first-round bye with a win and a Packers loss. The Saints score 29.9 points per game, as Drew Brees and company still have one of the most potent offenses in the league. The Saints earn 390.2 total yards of offense per contest as well. The Saints allow 22.0 points per game, as despite allowing 33 points last week, the Saints defense has been rather strong this season.
The Carolina Panthers are coming off a spoiler victory over the Washington Football Team in their last game on the road in Week 16. The Panthers dominated the Football Team in the first half, jumping out to a commanding 20-0 lead in the second quarter. Washington tried its best to mount a comeback, but the Panthers' defense held strong and earned the team its fifth win of the season. The Panthers may have not needed to win that game for any postseason reason, but it did hurt the chances of the Football Team to make the playoffs quite a bit. The Panthers score 22.9 points per game and earn 365.9 total yards of offense per contest as well. The Panthers allow 24.6 points per game to their opponents, as the defense has held up far better than most people would have thought entering this season.
The Saints open as 6.5-point favorites and the total is set at 48. I like the Saints to win this game and win it by more than a touchdown, as a very important playoff bye could be at stake. The Saints are not going to let up in a game that is important regarding seeding and home-field, so I will take New Orleans here.
