Breaking Down the Pittsburgh Steelers Win Total
2020 NFL Season
Pittsburgh Steelers: O/U 9.0 Wins - Super Bowl Odds 28/1
The Pittsburgh Steelers will be looking to improve off their 2019 season in order to give the Baltimore Ravens competition in the AFC North during the 2020 season. The Steelers finished the 2019 season with an (8-8) record. Let us take a look at who the Steelers will be looking at to help guide the team during the 2020 season.
The Steelers played most of the 2019 season without quarterback Ben Rothlisberger. Mason Rudolph stepped in for the majority of the season, passing for 1,765 yards and 13 touchdowns and 9 picks. Running back James Conner did not have a full season, as he missed 6 games. Conner rushed for 464 yards and 4 touchdowns. James Washington paced the receiving core with 44 receptions and 735 yards, while finding the end zone 3 times. Juju Smith-Schster also missed time and was not at 100% during the season, as he missed 4 games, while totaling 42 receptions.
The defense collected 54 sacks and 20 interceptions. The defense was very active and kept Pittsburgh in games, when the offense was sputtering. Linebacker T.J. Watt totaled 14.5 sacks and had 8 forced fumbles. Bud Dupree had 11.5 sacks and 68 tackles. Cornerback Joe Haden paced the secondary with 5 interceptions and 17 pass break ups. Safety Minkah Fitzpatrick contributed 5 picks and 9 passes defended. All these defensive players are back for the 2020 season.
Looking at the Steelers 2020 schedule, Pittsburgh has home contests outside of the AFC North against: Houston, Indianapolis, Philadelphia, Washington, and Denver. The road contest feature: Buffalo, Dallas, Jacksonville, New York Giants, and Tennessee. The Steelers return their core of talent on both sides of the ball. The main question of concern is can the Steelers stay healthy?
With the players that missed parts of the season a year ago, this team still managed to collect 8 wins. The Steelers have a rather easy schedule for home games and should be able to take advantage of some wins. Coach Mike Tomlin seems to always have the Steelers being competitive in almost all games in the division during his tenure. The projected win total is set at 9 wins. I’m going to side with the over here, as the Steelers have a solid defense, but return their fire power on offense and should be able to take advantage of a rather easy schedule.
