New York Jets - 6.5 Wins - Super Bowl Odds 70/1 Click Here for the Latest Odds
The New York Jets went 7-9 in 2019, which was not too shabby of a result for a team that lost its quarterback to Mononucleosis for a few weeks. The Jets defense was competitive and their offense was not. Winning three of their last four regular-season games, the Jets will look to build in 2020. Offense: The offense of the Jets was the main issue holding them back a season ago, as they were ranked 31st in total offense in the NFL, only better than the Washington Redskins. The questions of Sam Darnold will multiply greatly if he cannot get off to a hot start this season, which could be the most probable outcome. Darnold was not just unlucky, he was making bad decisions and practicing bad form in his throws for a good part of the season. With a QBR (Quarterback Rating) of a measly 43.6, Darnold will have to step it up in 2020 for the Jets to have a chance. The Jets lost one of the best wide receivers in Robby Anderson but were able to quickly find a replacement in Breshad Perriman, who could be the perfect fit for Darnold. Overall, this offense still looks weak, but with another year under his belt, Darnold should be able to improve slightly.
Defense: The Jets defense kept them in many games in 2019, as it should be noted that they only allowed a combined 16 points in their last two games of the season against potential playoff teams. The Jets defense got even better with the signing of Linebacker Patrick Onwuasor, who should be able to add some sacks to a team that was ranked 16th in total team sacks a season ago. I would be feeling quite confident in this Jets D, and I think they will produce even betters numbers in 2020.
Overview: In a more wide-open AFC East, the Jets could very well be a contender for the division title this season. Everything will come down to the offense, which still looks weak on paper, but could break out in 2020. I think the Jets can get to at least seven wins this season, so I will take the over 6.5 wins for the "J.E.T.S JETS JETS JETS!"
