The Carolina Panthers will travel to U.S. Bank Stadium to take on the Minnesota Vikings this Sunday afternoon in NFL action.
The Carolina Panthers snapped their 5-game losing streak and improved to 4-7 on the season after defeating the Detroit Lions, 20-0, this past Sunday. Carolina was outstanding defensively against the Lions and had no trouble cruising to victory after entering the 4th quarter with a 17-0 lead. Carolina outgained Detroit by a 374-185 margin and forced one turnover in the victory. Leading the way for the Panthers was WR DJ Moore who had 7 receptions for 127 yards.
On the season, Carolina is averaging 23.0 ppg on 365.7 total yards per game (2594 passing yds/g; 106.4 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Carolina has been led by Teddy Bridgewater who has completed 72.1% of his passes for 2,552 (274.8 yds/g), 13 TD, & 7 INT. Bridgewater missed last game due to knee injury and is currently questionable for this matchup. If Bridgewater cannot go, we are likely to see P.J. Walker (64.3 Comp %, 90.3 yds/g, 1 TD, 2 INT) get the start against. The top receiving threats for the Panthers have been DJ Moore (46 rec, 863 yards, 4 TD), Robby Anderson (71 rec, 818 yards, TD), and Curtis Samuel (49 rec, 445 yards, 3 TD). Leading the way for the Carolina backfield has been Mike Davis (111 att, 449 yards, 3 TD; 49 rec, 305 yards, 2 TD) who has done a nice job filling in for the injured Christian McCaffrey (59 att, 225 yards, 5 TD; 17 rec, 149 yards, TD) who is questionable for this game.
Defensively, Carolina is allowing their opponents to average 24.7 ppg on 371.5 total yards per game (254.7 passing yds/g; 116.8 rushing yds/g).
The Minnesota Vikings had their 3-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 4-6 on the season after being defeated by the Dallas Cowboys, 31-28, this past Sunday. Minnesota struggled defensively against the Andy Dalton led Cowboy offense and could not fight back after a Dalton Schultz 2-yard TD reception for Dallas gave the Cowboys the lead for good with 1:37 left in the 4th quarter. Minnesota was outgained by Dallas by a 430-376 margin, however, committed two turnovers in the loss. Leading the way for the Vikings was Adam Thielen who had 8 receptions for 123 yards & 2 TD’s.
On the season, Minnesota is averaging 26.4 ppg on 396.8 total yards per game (246.1 passing yds/g; 150.7 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Minnesota has been led by RB Dalvin Cook who has 1,069 rushing yards & 13 TD’s on 201 carries while also hauling in 25 receptions for 234 yards & 1 TD. QB Kirk Cousins has completed 66.9% of his passes for 2,461 yards (251.9 yds/g), 20 TD, & 11 INT. The top receiving threats for Cousins and the Vikings have been Justin Jefferson (45 rec, 848 yards, 4 TD), Adam Thielen (49 rec, 646 yards, 11 TD), and Kyle Rudolph (21 rec, 266 yards, TD).
Defensively, Minnesota is allowing their opponents to average 27.8 ppg on 393.1 total yards per game (271.0 passing yds/g; 122.1 rushing yds/g).
The Panthers are 6-3 ATS in their last 9 games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games on the road. The Vikings are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games and 4-2 ATS in their last 6 games vs. NFC opponents.
This is a game we are going to have to keep a close eye on throughout the week as obviously things will change if we find out if both Teddy Bridgewater and Christian McCaffrey are a go. As of right now, I am going on the assumption that both don’t play and between the fact that I don’t see the Carolina defense having the same success against the Dalvin Cook and the Minnesota offense and that I think Minnesota will be able to slow down P.J. Walker, I’m leaning n taking Minnesota to bounce back and cover this home spread. Good Luck!
