The Las Vegas Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs face off on Sunday in a Week 5 NFL showdown at Arrowhead Stadium.
The Las Vegas Raiders have been a tough team to figure out this year and coming into this game with a 2-2 record. After winning their first two games of the season including a big win over the New Orleans Saints, the Raiders have lost their last two games including their last game against the Buffalo Bills at home. The offense hasn’t been terrible for the Raiders, but their defense has let them down in a big way. On the season the Raiders are giving up 30 points per game and against a Chiefs offense that is elite, they are going to have to be better. Running back Josh Jacobs has looked good this year and he has rushed for 300 yards. In this game the offense is going to need to be good, but if the defense doesn’t step up, they are going to be in trouble.
On the other side of this matchup is the Chiefs who have a perfect 4-0 record and they have covered the spread in three of the games. In the last game against the New England Patriots it probably should have been closer than it was, but they were able to win by 16 points. On the season the Chiefs are averaging 29.2 points per game while the defense is giving up 17.5 points per game. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes is having a big year and he has thrown for 1,134 yards, 11 touchdowns, and zero interceptions. On defense they have also been strong giving up only 17.5 points per game. In this game the Chiefs need their defense to step up in a big way.
Las Vegas is 2-7 against the spread in their last nine games against the AFC. The under is 12-4-2 in Las Vegas’s last 18 games against the AFC.The Chiefs are 8-0-1 against the spread in their last nine home games. The Chiefs are 21-8-1 against the spread in their last 30 games against the AFC West. The under is 22-8 in last 30 meetings between the Chiefs and Raiders.
The Raiders defense has been terrible, but they have enough offense to keep this game close, and that is a whole lot of points to lay. Look for Derek Carr to have a big game and he will allow the Raiders to cover the spread.
