The Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Football Team face off Week 1 in an NFC showdown at FedEx Field.
The Philadelphia Eagles once again dealt with an injury to Carson Wentz in the playoffs and that cost them a chance at a playoff run. The team did draft Jalen Hurts this offseason, but this season will probably come down to Wentz staying healthy. Last season, Wentz threw for 4,039 yards, 27 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.
Last season the Eagles delta with a lot of injuries, and it is a problem again this year heading into Week 1. Miles Sanders, Avonte Maddox, and Derek Barnett all could miss this game. Wide receivers Alshon Jeffery and Jalon Reagor will also miss this game. On defense last season they weren’t terrible but the secondary dealt with a lot of issues, and that will be the x-factor this season.
The Washington Football Team brought in Ron Rivera this offseason to try and change the culture of the team. Dwayne Haskins has won the starting job and they need him to take a big step forward this season. Last season Haskins completed 58.6 percent of his throws for 1,365 yards, seven touchdowns, and seven interceptions. The team also released Adrian Peterson before the start of the season which means the running back is going to be very young. Last season the Washington Football Team’s defense really struggled giving up 27.2 points per game which put them near the bottom of the league.
The under is 7-2 in the Eagles last nine games played on grass. The under is 6-2 in the Eagles last eight games against the NFC. The over is 28-11 in the Philadelphia’s last 39 road games. Washington is 2-8 against the spread in their last 10 home games.
The hope is that Haskins will take a step forward this season, but I don’t see that happening, at least not yet. Look for the Eagles to run up the score against a very suspect defense which will allow them to win the game and cover the spread. In terms of the total it's a lean to the under.
