The Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions meet in a week 17 NFC North division matchup from Ford Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Green Bay Packers will look to finish the year strong after a 23-10 win over the Minnesota Vikings in their last outing. Aaron Rodgers threw for 216 yards and an interception on 26 of 40 passing while Aaron Jones rushed for 153 yards and 2 TDs on 23 carries. Davante Adams led Green Bay in receiving with 13 catches for 116 yards while Allen Lazard had 5 grabs for 45 yards. Defensively, Blake Martinez led the Packers with 8 total tackles while Za’Darius Smith had a team-high 3.5 sacks and 5 tackles for a loss and Kevin King added an interception as well. As a team, Green Bay is averaging 339.7 yards of total offense and 23.5 points per game while allowing 355.8 yards of total defense and 19.5 points per game against this season.
The Detroit Lions will attempt to finish the year on a high note after a 27-17 loss to Denver in their last outing. David Blough threw for 117 yards and a touchdown on 12 of 24 passing while Kerryon Johnson, Bo Scarbrough and Ty Johnson combined for 96 rushing yards on 21 carries. Kenny Golladay also led Detroit in receiving with 6 catches for 66 yards and a touchdown. Jamal Agnew added a 64-yard punt return for a touchdown for the Lions while Jalen Reeves-Maybin and Tavon Wilson each had a team-high 9 total tackles. As a team, Detroit is averaging 349.6 yards of total offense and 21.4 points per game while allowing 398.3 yards of total defense and 26.7 points per game against this season.
Green Bay is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 road games and 5-0 ATS in their last 5 Sunday games after playing on Monday night while the under is 7-0 in their last 7 division games. Detroit is 3-7 ATS in their last 10 division games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games as an underdog. Green Bay is 0-5 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
Part of me would like to think that Detroit shows up on the last week of the season to give the fans something to cheer about after a bad year, but the issue is that Detroit just doesn’t have enough pieces to be able to hang with most teams, let alone a division rival that’s still chasing a first round bye after clinching the division in their last outing. I just think that Green Bay is too much for the Lions to handle, so I’ll lay the points with the Packers here.
