The Atlanta Falcons and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers meet in a week 17 NFC South matchup in NFL action from Raymond James Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Atlanta Falcons will look to build on a 24-12 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in their last outing. Matt Ryan threw for 384 yards, a touchdown and 2 interceptions on 32 of 45 passing while Brian Hill led the Falcons with 66 rushing yards. Devonta Freeman added 53 rushing yards and a touchdown on a team-high 13 carries while Qadree Ellison had a rushing score as well. Julio Jones led Atlanta in receiving with 10 catches for 166 yards while Austin Hooper had 7 grabs for 82 yards and the aforementioned Freeman added 74 receiving yards and a touchdown on 9 catches. Defensively, De’Vondre Campbell had a team-high 9 total tackles including 8 solo tackles while Grady Jarrett and Vic Beasley Jr. each had a sack. As a team, Atlanta is averaging 380.1 yards of total offense and 23.5 points per game while allowing 357.6 yards of total defense and 25.1 points per game against this season.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will look to bounce back after a 23-20 loss to Houston last time out. Jameis Winston threw for 335 yards, a touchdown and 4 interceptions on 25 of 48 passing while Ronald Jones II led the Bucs with 77 rushing yards and a touchdown. Breshad Perriman led the Buccaneers in receiving with 7 catches for 102 yards while O.J. Howard had 46 receiving yards and Justin Watson had 5 grabs for 43 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Devin White had a fumble recovery and 8 total tackles while Jamel Dean had an interception and Jason Pierre-Paul had a team-high 3 sacks. Lavonte David also led Tampa Bay with 10 total tackles. As a team, Tampa Bay is averaging 402.5 yards of total offense and 29.1 points per game while allowing 342 yards of total defense and 28.1 points per game against this season.
Atlanta is 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games overall and 7-16 ATS in their last 23 road games while the over is 17-7-1 in their last 25 games against a team with a losing record. Tampa Bay is 0-5-2 ATS in their last 7 home games and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games against the NFC while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 division games. Atlanta is 2-5-1 ATS in the last 8 meetings between these two teams in Tampa Bay.
It’s hard to try to pick a side between two teams with nothing but pride to play for. However, Tampa’s been up and down all year long, and that was highlighted in their loss to Houston last time out, while it’s just a case of too little too late for Atlanta as the Falcons have been playing some of their best football of the year down the stretch, also covering in 6 of their last 8 games. Tampa Bay also hasn’t covered in any of their home games this year, and even with this line almost being a pick ‘em, I don’t see that changing here. I’ll take the free point with Atlanta as I see the Falcons winning this one outright.
