The Cleveland Browns and New England Patriots meet Sunday in NFL action at Gillette Stadium.
The Cleveland Browns are coming off a bye week and need a win here to save their season. The Cleveland Browns have split their last eight road games. Baker Mayfield is completing 56.6 percent of his passes for 1,496 yards, five touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Mayfield has at least one interception in all six games this season. Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham Jr. have combined for 875 receiving yards and one touchdown while Ricky Seals-Jones has seven receptions. The Cleveland Browns ground game is averaging 119.8 yards per contest, and Nick Chubb leads the way with 607 yards and six touchdowns. Defensively, Cleveland is allowing 25.7 points and 373.3 yards per game. Joe Schobert leads the Cleveland Browns with 62 tackles, Myles Garrett has nine sacks and Devaroe Lawrence has one interception.
The New England Patriots look for another win to improve to 8-0 and remain the team to beat. The New England Patriots haven’t lost a home game since October of 2017. Tom Brady is completing 65.9 percent of his passes for 1,992 yards, 11 touchdowns and four interceptions. Brady has three or more touchdown passes in six of his last 14 games. Julian Edelman and Josh Gordon have combined for 783 receiving yards and three touchdowns while James White has 38 receptions. The New England Patriots ground game is averaging 97.6 yards per contest, and Sony Michel leads the way with 390 yards and six touchdowns. Defensively, New England is allowing 6.9 points and 223.1 yards per game. Jason McCourty leads the New England Patriots with 32 tackles, Jamie Collins Sr. has 4.5 sacks and Devin McCourty has five interceptions.
The Browns are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games, 5-20-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games in October. The Patriots are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games on fieldturf, 41-15-2 ATS in their last 58 games in October and 41-17-2 ATS in their last 60 home games. The Browns are 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings in New England and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 meetings. The under is 6-2 in Patriots last 8 games overall. The over is 3-1-1 in Browns last 5 vs. AFC.
The Cleveland Browns have failed to cover eight of their last 11 games as a double-digit underdog. The New England Patriots have covered 16 of their last 20 games as a double-digit favorite. The Cleveland Browns have a big advantage in this game given they've had an extra week to prepare and the Patriots will have less time than usual playing on Monday night. The problem is we don't know which Browns team is going to show up, as we've seen this team blowout the Ravens on the road and then lose twice by 28 or more points. There's no consistency with these Browns. We do know the New England Patriots have been covering machines these last several years at home and they cover big numbers better than any team in the league. So, I'll back the trends and take the Pats in a blowout victory.
