The Jacksonville Jaguars and the Carolina Panthers meet in week 5 NFL action in an inter-conference matchup from Bank of America Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Jacksonville Jaguars will look to build on back-to-back wins after a 26-24 win over Denver in their last outing. Gardner Minshew II has thrown for 905 yards, 7 touchdowns and an interception on 69.4% passing while Leonard Fournette has rushed for a team-high 404 yards. DJ Chark Jr. leads the Jaguars’ receiving corps with 19 catches for 321 yards and 3 touchdowns while Chris Conley has 217 receiving yards. Dede Westbrook and the aforementioned Fournette each have 100+ receiving yards this season. Defensively, Ronnie Harrison leads Jacksonville with 29 total tackles, while Quincy Williams has 28 total tackles with a team-high 18 solo tackles and Jarrod Wilson comes in 3rd with 25 total tackles. Calais Campbell leads the Jags with 3 sacks this season. As a team, Jacksonville is averaging 364 yards of total offense and 21 points per game while allowing 366.2 yards of total defense and 21 points per game against this season.
The Carolina Panthers will also be looking to build on back-to-back wins on the road, taking down Houston by a final score of 16-10 in their last outing. Kyle Allen has thrown for 493 yards and 4 touchdowns on 71.7% passing while Christian McCaffrey leads the Panthers in rushing with 411 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns. DJ Moore leads Carolina in receiving yardage with 261 receiving yards and Greg Olsen is 2nd with 226 yards and 2 touchdowns. McCaffrey has a team-high 25 catches for 218 yards while Curtis Samuel has 208 receiving yards and Jarius Wright has 126 receiving yards for Carolina this year. Luke Kuechly leads the Panthers’ defense with 44 total tackles, while Shaq Thompson is right behing in 2nd with 40 total tackles including a team-high 26 solo tackles. Mario Addison leads the Panthers and is 3rd in the NFL with 5.5 sacks this season. As a team, Carolina is averaging 351.2 yards of total offense and 23.8 points per game while allowing 287.5 yards of total defense and 20 points per game against this season.
Jacksonville is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a win and 1-6 ATS in their last 7 week 5 matchups while the under is 5-2 in their last 7 games overall. Carolina is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games following a win while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games following a game in which they covered the spread.
I’m impressed with what Carolina did on the road, as the Panthers took down a good Texans team in their own building. However, Jacksonville is starting to look like a team that’s ready to make some noise with back-to-back wins of their own including a rally with 20 second half points to beat a Denver team that isn’t very good, but still knows how to play solid defense. The fact here for me is that the Jaguars have been in every game they’ve played this season, and I think Jacksonville has enough to keep this one close if not win outright, so I’ll take Jacksonville and the points here.
