The Toronto Raptors will be hoping for a better effort after getting routed by the Cavaliers in a 126-113 loss in Game 1 last night. RJ Barrett led the team with 24 points on seven of 13 shooting, Scottie Barnes added 21 points with seven assists while Brandon Ingram and Jamal Shead each scored 17 points. As a team, the Raptors shot 52 percent from the field and 13 of 27 from the 3-point line which was good enough to stay within striking distance heading into halftime, but that all changed in the third quarter where the Cavaliers went on a 21-6 run to put the Raptors behind by 24 points. Jakob Poeltl had a quiet game of just four points while Sandro Mamukelashvili scored just three points in 20 minutes off the bench.

Meanwhile, the Cleveland Cavaliers looked like a team on a mission heading into the NBA Playoffs and they must be brimming with confidence after blowing past the Raptors in a comfortable win in Game 1. Donovan Mitchell led the team with 32 points on 11 of 20 shooting, Max Strus added 24 points on eight of 10 shooting off the bench, James Harden scored 22 points with 10 assists while Evan Mobley chipped in with 17 points, seven rebounds and four assists. As a team, the Cavaliers shot 54 percent from the field and 16 of 32 from the 3-point line as they set the tone with 35 points in the first quarter to jump out in front early, but this was still a relatively close contest until the Cavaliers exploded for 36 points in the third quarter to put the game to bed.

The Raptors have ruled out Chucky Hepburn again and they are sweating on the availability of Immanuel Quickley who is a game time decision, while the Cavaliers are keeping an eye on Thomas Bryant who is dealing with a calf injury. The Raptors will surely be disappointed with their defense in Game 1 especially against the Cavaliers’ Max Strus who torched them for 24 points in just 24 minutes off the bench. It’s hard to picture anything but another win for the Cavaliers at home, but there were some positives for the Raptors and I think they can keep this one a little closer, especially if Quickley is able to suit up.
