The Boston Celtics (38-16) are set to host the San Antonio Spurs (23-28) on February 12, 2025, at TD Garden in Boston. The Celtics are coming off a commanding 103-85 victory over the Miami Heat, marking their second consecutive win. Jayson Tatum led the team with 33 points, following a 40-point performance against the New York Knicks. Despite the absence of All-Star teammate Jaylen Brown for the past two games, Tatum's efforts have been bolstered by contributions from players like Sam Hauser, who scored 15 points—all from three-pointers—against Miami.
The Spurs recently secured a 131-121 victory over the Washington Wizards, snapping a two-game losing streak. This game marks their sixth consecutive road matchup, during which they've struggled, covering the spread only once. San Antonio averages 113.2 points per game, ranking 14th in the league, with De’Aaron Fox leading the team at 24.7 points per game, along with 4.9 rebounds and 6.3 assists. Rookie Victor Wembanyama has been impressive, contributing 24.4 points and a team-high 11 rebounds per game, and leading the NBA with 3.9 blocks per game.
Jayson Tatum Under 6.5 Assists
Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum has been a significant playmaker during the 2024-25 NBA season. He’s averaging 5.5 assists per game, ranking him 29th in the league. his marks an improvement from the previous season (2023-24), where he averaged 4.9 assists per game.
This is a spot where I want to fade Tatum on his assists. We've seen him fail to record over four assists in his last three games. It seems like the Celtics are looking at Tatum to be more of a scorer than a facilitator at the moment. With Jaylen Brown being out of the lineup Tatum is missing a key guy who would help his assist numbers. Until Tatum shows me something different let’s keep taking the under on his assists.
Victor Wembanyama Over 11.5 Rebounds
San Antonio Spurs forward Victor Wembanyama has been a dominant force on the boards during the 2024-25 NBA season. Over 45 games, he is averaging 11.0 rebounds per game, ranking him eighth in the league. His rebounding efforts are evenly distributed, with approximately 5.5 offensive rebounds and 5.5 defensive rebounds per game.
Wembanyama is coming off a game where he secured 15 rebounds against the Washington Wizards and I expect him to have another big night on the boards in this one. The Celtics do almost everything at a high level but one area they've struggled with is rebounding the ball. Boston is giving up 53.1 rebounds per game to opposing teams which is well above the league average. If the Spurs want to have any chance in this game Wembanyama will need to play a lot of minutes and execute on the glass.
Kristaps Porzingis Under 19.5 Points
Boston Celtics center Kristaps Porzingis has been a significant offensive contributor during this season. He’s averaging 19.1 points per game, with a field goal percentage of 47.1%. From beyond the arc, he maintains a three-point shooting percentage of 40.5%. At the free-throw line, Porzingis has been reliable, achieving an 83.3% free-throw percentage.
Don't get me wrong Porzingis is a great and talented player but there are just too many mouths to feed on this Boston Celtics team. From Superstar Jason Tatum to three-point assassin Derek White this team knows how to spread the ball around. This results in guys like Porzingis not having monster-scoring nights. We've seen him fail to score over 19 points in his last five games. I'll continue to ride the trend and take his under in this one.
