Where to Watch: NBA League Pass
The Sacramento Kings (25-24) are set to face the Portland Trail Blazers (22-29) on February 6, 2025, at the Moda Center in Portland. The Kings, currently 8th in the Western Conference, recently traded De’Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs. In their first game post-trade, they secured a narrow 116-114 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves, with DeMar DeRozan leading the team with 33 points and 7 assists, and Malik Monk contributing 26 points off the bench. Domantas Sabonis also added a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
On the other hand, the Trail Blazers, positioned 13th in the Western Conference, are on a five-game winning streak, including a recent 112-89 win over the Indiana Pacers. Anfernee Simons led the team with 22 points, while Jerami Grant added 20 points. The return of Robert Williams from injury has bolstered their defense, and contributions from Scoot Henderson and Shaedon Sharpe off the bench have strengthened their offense. Deni Avdija has been consistent, averaging 14.7 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.
Malik Monk Over 6.5 Assists
Malik Monk has emerged as a key playmaker for the Sacramento Kings during the 2024-25 NBA season. He’s averaging 5.9 assists per game, which ranks him 24th in the league. In a notable performance on January 30, 2025, Monk recorded eight assists, along with 21 points and five rebounds, in a 117-104 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers. His increased role as a facilitator has been instrumental in the Kings' offensive strategies this season.
With the Kings trading away their star point guard De'aaron Fox they've had to look at other ways to make sure this offense still runs like a smooth machine. We've seen Malik Monk become one of this team's main facilitators as of late. He's cleared this line of 6.5 assists in seven of his last nine games. He has a favorable matchup going against Portland who gives up 26.4 assists per game to opposing teams.
Deandre Ayton Over 16.5 Points
Deandre Ayton has been a consistent scorer for the Portland Trail Blazers. He’s currently averaging 14.6 points per game. In a standout performance on January 29, 2025, Ayton scored 21 points, shooting 9-of-19 from the field, along with 14 rebounds, contributing to the Trail Blazers' 125-112 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks. Throughout the season, Ayton has consistently contributed to the Trail Blazers' offense, providing reliable scoring in the paint and maintaining high shooting efficiency.
I think a big reason for the Trailblazer's success as of late has been DeAndre Ayton’s scoring efforts. He's coming off a game where he only scored eight points against the Indiana Pacers but this is a perfect spot for him to bounce back. We saw him score 20-plus points in four straight games before that game against the Pacers. Now he plays this King's team that's lackluster on the defensive side of the ball and typically plays at a fast pace. I wouldn't be surprised if Ayton gets over the 20-point mark once again in this spot.
Jerami Grant Over 1.5 Three Pointers
Jerami Grant has been a consistent contributor from beyond the arc for the Portland Trail Blazers during the 2024-25 NBA season. He’s averaging 14.6 points per game. His three-point shooting has been a significant aspect of his offensive game, with an average of 2.3 three-pointers made per game on 6.1 attempts, resulting in a 37.9% success rate. In a notable performance on February 4, 2025, Grant scored 20 points, shooting 6-of-14 from the field, including 3-of-6 from three-point range, contributing to the Trail Blazers' 112-89 victory over the Indiana Pacers.
Whenever I see the Sacramento Kings I instantly look to attack the team they’re playing best three-point shooter. The Kings have been horrible with guarding the three-pointer shot this season. They currently give up 14.4 three-pointers per game to opposing teams which is the most in the whole league. Jerami Grant has gone back-to-back games scoring three three-pointers. I don't see how he does it have another big game beyond the arc going against the Sacramento team.
