Canada and France meet Monday in the 2024 Summer Olympics at Pierre Mauroy Stadium. Here’s a Canada vs France Prediction. This article will include a Canada vs France Pick.
Canada Betting Preview
Canada is in it's the Olympics in back to back years and looks to win its first ever medal in women’s basketball. Canada is coached by Víctor Lapena, who has won various events, most recently the Turkish Super League in 2021. WNBA fans will enjoy team Canada considering the roster features Kia Nurse, Bridget Carleton, Natalie Achonwa, Aaliyah Edwards and Laeticia Amihere. That’s a solid group of players who are all in the prime of their careers. Other players on team Canada include Yvonne Ejim, who was just the WCC Player of the Year at Gonzaga and Kayla Alexander, who was the 2022 Europe SuperCup MVP. Shay Colley has three medals in the AmeriCup and this could be the first time we see Michigan commit Syla Swords. Canada is getting little respect in the futures market, but the group of WNBA players alone makes them worth a look.
France Betting Preview
France has finished no worse than fourth in each of the last three Olympics, which includes a bronze medal in Japan. France will be coached by Jean-Aime Toupane, who led this group to a bronze medal in the 2023 European Championship. The most notable name on this France roster is Gabby Williams, who won two titles at UConn. Marine Johannes spent a few years with the New York Liberty, and Leila Lacan was just a top-10 pick by the Connecticut Sun. Iliana Rupert has spent a couple of years in the WNBA and won a title with the Las Vegas Aces. Marieme Badiane is fresh off winning the EuroLeague and Sarah Michel is the captain of France at 35 years old. Team France isn’t as stacked on the women’s side as the men are, but they still have the second-best odds to win the gold medal. Of course, France will be the crowd favorites every time it takes the floor.
Canada vs France Prediction
France is going to get the benefit of the doubt from oddsmakers because of its recent track record in past Olympics in women’s basketball. There’s also some inflation because of home court. However, it does feel like Canada is being disrespected with this line. Canada has a fine group of WNBA players and Alexander, who was just the SuperCup MVP a couple of years ago. I believe Canada is being slept on in this tournament. I’ll grab the 11.5 free points.
Randy’s Pick Canada +11.5
