Australia and Spain meet Saturday in the 2024 Summer Olympics at Pierre Mauroy Stadium. Here’s a Australia vs Spain Prediction. This article will include a Australia vs Spain Pick.

Australia Betting Preview

Australia is coming off a bronze medal finish in Tokyo and a fourth place finish in Brazil, so the Boomers have become a team to watch on the basketball side. There’s a lot of current or past NBA players on this Australian roster, including Matthew Dellavedova, Patty Mills and Joe Ingles as the standouts. Josh Giddey, Josh Green, Dyson Daniels, Dante Exum, Jack McVeigh and Duop Reath are others who are currently in the NBA. Nick Kay fills out the Australian roster as a two-time NBL champion and all-NBL first-team selection. Head coach Brian Goorjian is a six-time NBL champion and NBA coach of the year. Needless to say, team Australia is extremely accomplished and has proven itself in recent Olympics. So while not getting much respect in the futures market, do not sleep on the Australians.

Spain Betting Preview

Spain is usually a respected team on the basketball side and earned the bronze medal in Brazil and the silver medal in London. Many aren’t all that high on Spain in Paris, and the Spaniards actually have worse future odds than Australia. Sergio Scariolo is the head coach, a four-time EuroBasket champion and an NBA champion as an assistant coach with the Toronto Raptors. The problem is Spain lacks top tier talent, with Usman Garuba and Santi Aldama being the only current NBA players. The Spain roster does include former key NBA players in Willy Hernangomez and Rudy Fernandez. The star of team Spain is probably Lorenzo Brown, who has been one of the best players in the EuroLeague back to back seasons and is a two-time Israeli Premier League champion. While there’s young up-and-coming players in the Spain pipeline, gone are the days of the Gasol bothers, Ricky Rubio and Jose Calderon. On paper, Spain doesn’t have the talent to compete with the big boys.

Australia vs Spain Prediction

Spain is well coached and has a player or two who can leave it all out there to make this game competitive. The difference is the depth and the top level talent. Australia is coming off back to back strong Olympic performances and has a lot of NBA talent to throw out there. We can’t say the same about Spain, which is a shell of itself talent wise at this very moment. This Australian team has also been together for a while, so the chemistry is there. If Australia is going to make it to the knockout stages, this is a game it can’t afford to blow. The line is reasonable. I’ll lay the 5.5 points with team Australia.

Randy’s Pick Australia -5.5
