The Portland Trail Blazers and LA Clippers meet Wednesday in NBA action at the crypto.com Arena. Let’s preview this game and give out a pick and prediction.
Portland Trail Blazers Betting Preview
The Portland Trail Blazers have missed the playoffs in back to back years and enter the third season under coach Chauncey Billups. The Trail Blazers have entered full rebuild mode after moving on from Jusuf Nurkic and Damian Lillard. The Blazers did add Deandre Ayton and Robert Williams III, as well as keep Jerami Grant, so there’s still some win now pieces on the roster. However, this season for the Trail Blazers is all about the growth of Scoot Henderson, Anfernee Simons and Shaedon Sharpe, three guys who are considered the future of this franchise. Playoffs are unlikely for the Trail Blazers this season, but this season is still valuable as there are a handful of players who have to prove things are moving in the right direction.
LA Clippers Betting Preview
The Clippers won 44 games last year and were bounced in the first round. The Clippers enter the fourth year under coach Tyronn Lue and hope to right some wrongs. Outside of losing Eric Gordon, the Clippers are pretty much the same team from a year ago, led by a trio of Russell Westbrook, Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. The addition of Kenyon Martin Jr. is nice depth, as he’s coming off a productive season with the Rockets. Rookie Kobe Brown is a versatile player who can do a lot of things well and has gotten better with his outside shot. Still, overall, the health of Kawhi and PG13 will determine if the Clippers are going to once again be a talented disappointment or a title contender. After decades of struggle and recent years of blown opportunities, the Clippers are due for something to finally go their way.
Randy’s Pick
The Clippers are super talented, but their top-two players have injury issues, and it makes them hard to trust. However, the Portland Trail Blazers are young and working in several new players. It's going to take time before the Trail Blazers figure out the rotation and how to win games. There's no excuse for the Clippers not to run away with this contest. I'll lay the chalk, even if this is a hefty number for a season opener.
Randy’s Pick Los Angeles Clippers -9
