The Dallas Mavericks and San Antonio Spurs meet Wednesday in NBA action at the Frost Bank Center. Let’s preview this game and give out a pick and prediction.
Dallas Mavericks Betting Preview
The Dallas Mavericks enter this season with pressure, as they missed the playoffs for the first time since 2018-19. Jason Kidd enters his third year as head coach. The Mavs are going to go as far as Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving take them, but they made some moves this offseason to add to the depth. Grant Williams adds defense and toughness, Seth Curry brings more shooting and Derrick Jones Jr. brings athleticism. Take those 3 additions and the health of Tim Hardaway Jr., and the Mavericks are looking better than they did a season ago. The Mavs have the talent to make a serious run in the West this season, but the defense has to come together and Kyrie has to stay engaged. The pieces are there for Dallas to put a scare into the rest of the league.
San Antonio Spurs Betting Preview
The San Antonio Spurs are coming off a 22-win season, just the fifth time in franchise history they won less than 30 games. The Spurs are still in the middle of a rebuild, and there’s not enough on this roster to believe this recent playoff drought will end. The good news for the Spurs is Gregg Popovich is still head coach at 74 years old, and he brings over 1,300 wins and 5 NBA titles. Also, the Spurs have one of the best prospects in NBA history in Victor Wembanyama, who is a 19-year-old from France who stands at 7’4” and has a unique skill set. There’s going to be struggles for the Spurs yet again this season, but Wembanyama will make them worth watching and he creates an exciting future.
Randy’s Pick
The Dallas Mavericks are a team I have future bets on, as I'm intrigued with the Luka / Kyrie duo and the return of Timmy and bench additions. The Mavs could make a run to come out of the West. However, for this game, Kyrie and Luka are both questionable, which isn't ideal. The San Antonio Spurs are going to pack the house with Wemby taking the floor and it's sure to be a crazy atmosphere. The Mavs should be favored, but I can't lay points without knowing if Kyrie and Luka are going to play. So, for now, it's Spurs and the buckets at home.
Randy’s Pick San Antonio Spurs +4
