The Los Angeles Lakers and the Denver Nuggets kick off the NBA season at the Ball Arena on Tuesday night.
Los Angeles Lakers Betting Preview
The Los Angeles Lakers will be looking to make a deep run this season after finishing with a disappointing 43-39 record last season. The Lakers weren't a part of any of the big trades in the offseason, but they kept D'Angelo Russell and Austin Reaves, while acquiring Christian Wood who could have a massive role in the team if Anthony Davis has another injury plagued season. I'm expecting the ageless LeBron James to improve on last season as he certainly has more help this time round, but I think this will be the season that we finally see the best of Davis assuming he can stay on the court.
Denver Nuggets Betting Preview
Meanwhile, the Denver Nuggets will be aiming to repeat after winning the NBA Championship last season. Nikola Jokic carried the team to a 53-29 overall record and he was key in the playoffs where he averaged 30.0 points, 13.5 rebounds and 9.5 assists per game. Jamal Murray averaged 26.1 points, 5.7 rebounds and 7.1 assists during the playoffs while Aaron Gordon averaged 13.3 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. As a team, the Nuggets averaged 113.5 points per game while shooting 49.2 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from the 3-point line.
Peter's Pick
It would've been nice if the Lakers were able to acquire one of the three point guards that were on the market, but they've decided to stick with the rejuvenated Russell. Perhaps more important for them was to bolster their frontcourt depth and I really think Wood will thrive playing with James and the Lakers. The Nuggets didn't need to make any moves in the offseason, so they're coming back with the same squad and there's no reason why they shouldn't be contenders once again. In terms of picking a winner for this game, the Nuggets start as favorites at home, but they will be raising their banner and accepting their championship rings, so I'm leaning towards the Lakers to hang around and at least make it a close one.
Peter’s Pick Los Angeles +5.5
