The Boston Celtics will be looking to square up the series at 3-3 against the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 6 on Thursday night.
The Boston Celtics held all the momentum in the series after taking a 2-1 series lead in Game 3, but they’ve dropped the last two games and are now just one loss from ending their season after getting beaten by the 76ers in a 115-103 loss in Game 5 on Tuesday. Jayson Tatum led the way with 36 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, Jaylen Brown added 24 points on nine of 16 shooting while Marcus Smart chipped in with 14 points. As a team, the Celtics shot just 39 percent from the field and 12 of 38 from the 3-point line as they got off to a slow start and just couldn’t find their way back into the contest after falling behind by as many as 21 points in the third quarter. The Celtics only had three players finish in double figures in scoring, Malcolm Brogdon scored just seven points off the bench, while Al Horford had a night to forget as he finished scoreless on zero of seven shooting in 25 minutes of action.
Meanwhile, the Philadelphia 76ers will be brimming with confidence as they are now just one win away from advancing to the Conference Finals after taking care of business on Tuesday. Joel Embiid led the team with 33 points, seven rebounds and four blocks, Tyrese Maxey added 30 points on 10 of 21 shooting, James Harden scored 17 points with eight rebounds and 10 assists while Tobias Harris chipped in with 16 points. As a team, the 76ers shot 50 percent from the field and 12 of 30 from the 3-point line as they set the tone defensively by keeping the Celtics quiet in the first half, before they made a push in the third quarter to lead by as many as 21 points.
Looking at the betting trends, the Celtics are 5-2 ATS in their last seven road games, 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games against a team with a winning record and 6-1 ATS in their last seven games following a loss. The 76ers are 27-13 ATS in their last 40 home games, 15-7-1 ATS in their last 23 games following a win of more than 10 points and 8-2-1 ATS in their last 11 games overall.
Head to head, the over is 4-1 in the last five meetings overall, the Celtics are 7-3 ATS in the last 10 meetings overall and the Celtics are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings in Philadelphia.
The Celtics were in control for the first half of this series, but now they are in a must-win situation as the 76ers have now moved to just one win away from advancing to the Conference Finals. The 76ers will be brimming with confidence after taking apart the Celtics in a big road win in Game 5 and now they have a massive chance to finish the job at home where they are 3-1 in these playoffs so far. The Celtics are still in this series, but they’re backs are against the wall now and they can’t afford to get off to another slow start. It’s hard to split these two teams at the moment, but the Celtics are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings in Philadelphia and I think that trend continues as the Celtics force a Game 7.
