The Philadelphia 76ers and the Boston Celtics duke it out in a pivotal Game 5 at the TD Garden on Tuesday night.
The Philadelphia 76ers will be looking to reclaim the lead after squaring up the series with a 116-115 overtime win in Game 4 on Sunday. Joel Embiid led the team with 34 points, 13 rebounds and four assists, James Harden put up another vintage performance of 42 points with eight rebounds, nine assists and four steals while Tyrese Maxey chipped in with 14 points. As a team, the 76ers shot 46 percent from the field and 13 of 34 from the 3-point line as they looked to be in trouble when they wasted an early 16-point lead, before they made up for it in overtime where they held the Celtics to just eight points to pull off the important victory.
Meanwhile, the Boston Celtics will be kicking themselves after missing out on a big chance to take a 3-1 series lead on Sunday. Jayson Tatum led the team with 24 points, 18 rebounds, six assists and four blocks, Jaylen Brown added 23 points and five assists while Marcus Smart chipped in with 21 points and seven assists. As a team, the Celtics shot 47 percent from the field and 17 of 44 from the 3-point line as they opened the fourth quarter with a 15-4 run to erase a 16-point deficit, only to come up painfully short in overtime as they failed to get a shot up in their final possession to allow the 76ers off the hook in a tight finish.
Looking at the betting trends, the 76ers are 4-1-1 ATS in their last six road games, 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a winning record and 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 games overall. The Celtics are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 home games, 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games against a team with a winning record and 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games overall.
Head to head, the under is 5-2 in the last seven meetings in Boston, the 76ers are 2-7 ATS in the last nine meetings overall and the 76ers are 5-11 ATS in the last 16 meetings in Boston.
The 76ers could be shorthanded here as Joel Embiid is currently listed as questionable, while the Celtics are coming into this one with the same squad. The 76ers were in deep trouble after dropping Games 2 and 3, but they were good enough to square things up thanks to another monster game from Harden. However, the Celtics will know that they still hold home-court advantage and they smashed the 76ers the last time they played at the TD Garden. It's tempting to take the 76ers with the points, but with the injury cloud hanging over Embiid, I'll stick with the Celtics to take care of business at home with a win and cover here.
