The Boston Celtics and the Philadelphia 76ers collide in a crucial Game 4 at the Wells Fargo Center on Sunday afternoon.
The Boston Celtics will be aiming to take a commanding 3-1 series lead after taking down the 76ers in a pivotal 114-102 win in Game 3 on Friday. Jayson Tatum led the team with 27 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, Jaylen Brown added 23 points with seven rebounds and five assists, Al Horford scored 17 points while Marcus Smart chipped in with 15 points. As a team, the Celtics shot 44 percent from the field and 16 of 45 from the 3-point line, but this game was more about their defense as they were always in control after limiting the 76ers to just 21 points in the second quarter. It was a balanced scoring effort as the Celtics had six players finish in double figures in scoring and they shot an efficient 22 of 23 from the free throw line.
Meanwhile, the Philadelphia 76ers started the night with a celebration for Joel Embiid who won the NBA MVP award, only to finish the night with a sour loss. Joel Embiid led the team with 30 points, 13 rebounds four blocks, James Harden added 16 points with 11 assists while De’Anthony Melton chipped in with 14 points, eight rebounds and four steals off the bench. As a team, the 76ers shot just 39 percent from the field and 16 of 37 from the 3-point line as they struggled to find their offense and just didn’t provide enough support to Embiid who is still dealing with a knee injury. Tyrese Maxey scored just 13 points on four of 16 shooting, while Harden shot just three of 14 from the field with five turnovers.
Looking at the betting trends, the Celtics are 5-1 ATS in their last six road games, 9-1 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a winning record and 10-3 ATS in their last 13 games overall. The 76res are 15-5-1 ATS in their last 21 games against a team with a winning record and 6-2-1 ATS in their last nine games overall.
Head to head, the over is 5-2 in the last seven meetings in Philadelphia, the Celtics are 7-1 ATS in the last eight meetings overall and the Celtics are 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings in Philadelphia.
The Celtics took full control of the series with a strong defensive display on Friday, so now it’s up to the 76ers to respond or find themselves facing another early playoff exit. The Celtics have looked like the better team overall, but the 76ers’ role players need to step up to help Embiid out. The 76ers are still capable to squaring up the series if Harden can bounce back, but he’s been too inconsistent all season, so I’d rather stick with the Celtics who are 7-1 ATS in the last eight meetings overall.
