The Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors duke it out in a pivotal Game 2 at the Chase Center on Thursday night.
The Los Angeles Lakers will be brimming with confidence after stealing home-court advantage with a 117-112 win over the Warriors in Game 1 on Tuesday. Anthony Davis made nine of his first 10 shots to finish with 30 points, 23 rebounds, five assists and four blocks, LeBron James added 22 points with 11 rebounds and four assists while D'Angelo Russell and Dennis Schroder scored 19 points apiece. As a team, the Lakers shot 46 percent from the field and six of 25 from the 3-point line as they exploded for 36 points in the second quarter to take the lead into halftime, before they closed the final 1:38 on a 5-0 run to escape with the important victory. The Lakers made just six 3-pointers, but they outscored the Warriors by 25-5 at the free throw line while finishing with 54 points in the paint.
Meanwhile, the Golden State Warriors will be going back to the drawing board after coming up empty against the Lakers in the series opener on Tuesday. Stephen Curry led the way with 27 points, six rebounds and three assists, Klay Thompson added 25 points while Jordan Poole chipped in with 21 points and six assists off the bench. As a team, the Warriors shot 40 percent from the field and 21 of 53 from the 3-point line, but they just couldn't stop the Lakers from scoring inside the paint and it cost them in the end. Kevon Looney had a big game of 10 points with 23 rebounds and five assists, but he had no way of slowing down the Lakers' Davis. The Warriors heavily relied on 3-point shooting and they got six made 3-pointers each from Curry, Thompson and Poole which makes it more concerning.
Looking at the betting trends, the Lakers are 5-0 ATS in their last five Conference Semifinals games and 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall. The Warriors are 40-19-1 ATS in their last 60 home games, 3-8 ATS in their last 11 Conference Semifinals games and 5-1 ATS in their last six games following a loss.
Head to head, the over is 4-1 in the last five meetings in Golden State, the Lakers are 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings in Golden State and the Lakers are 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings overall.
The Lakers were able to earn the important road win in Game 1 thanks to a monster game from Davis and solid contributions from Schroder and Russell. The Lakers also dominated the scoring in the paint and overall they defended better to survive a pretty good shooting performance from the Warriors who finished with 21 made 3-pointers. Draymond Green was hardly in the game all night as he was battling foul trouble and a tech foul, but the Warriors need him and everyone else to step up in what is their biggest game of the season. All the momentum is with the Lakers, but this is almost a must-win game for the Warriors and I'm backing them to make some adjustments and bounce back with a win.
