The New York Knicks travel to the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse to take on the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 5 on Wednesday night.
The New York Knicks will be looking to finish off the Cavaliers and advance to the second round after winning by 102-93 in Game 4 on Sunday to go up 3-1 in the series. Jalen Brunson led the team with 29 points, six rebounds and six assists, RJ Barrett added 26 points on nine of 18 shooting while Josh Hart chipped in with 19 points. As a team, the Knicks shot 45 percent from the field and eight of 29 from the 3-point line as they got off to a quick start and jumped out to a 15-point lead, but it wasn’t all easy as they had to hold the Cavaliers to just 22 points in the fourth quarter to pull away and earn the important victory. Julius Randle had a quiet game of just seven points on three of 10 shooting while the bench combined for just nine points in total.
Meanwhile, the Cleveland Cavaliers are now playing to keep their season alive after coming up short to the Knicks in Game 4 on Sunday. Darius Garland led the team with 23 points and 10 assists on nine of 16 shooting, Jarrett Allen and Caris LeVert each scored 14 points while Evan Mobley chipped in with 12 points. As a team, the Cavaliers shot 46 percent from the field and six of 23 from the 3-point line as they worked hard to erase an early 15-point deficit to take the lead in the third quarter, only to go cold when it mattered most and allow the Knicks off the hook in the fourth quarter. Donovan Mitchell had a rough game as he scored just 11 points on five of 18 shooting with six turnovers.
Looking at the betting trends, the Knicks are 37-16-1 ATS in their last 54 road games, 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a winning record and 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 games overall. The Cavaliers are 1-4 ATS in their last five home games, 1-5 ATS in their last six games against a team with a winning record and 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the under is 4-0 in the last four meetings overall and the Knicks are 6-1 ATS in the last seven meetings overall.
The Knicks hold all the momentum in this matchup, they are up 3-1 in the series and they just beat the Cavaliers with Julius Randle scoring just seven points in a quiet game. The Cavaliers needed to win on Sunday to square up the series, but they needed someone else to step up as Donovan Mitchell had one of his worst games ever. It’s tempting to side with the Knicks who hold all the momentum here, but this is the season for the Cavaliers and I’m expecting them to bounce back in front of their home crowd thanks to a big game from Mitchell.
