The New York Knicks and the Cleveland Cavaliers do battle in a pivotal Game 2 at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse on Tuesday night.
The New York Knicks will be eager to take a commanding 2-0 series lead after pulling off the minor upset over the Cavaliers in Game 1 on Saturday. Jalen Brunson led the team with 27 points on 11 of 24 shooting, Julius Randle added 19 points with 10 rebounds and four assists while Josh Hart tallied 17 points with 10 rebounds off the bench. As a team, the Knicks shot 42 percent from the field and eight of 29 from the 3-point line as they struggled to gain any separation until midway through the third quarter where they went on a pivotal 18-7 run to build a double-digit lead which was just enough to hold off the Cavaliers in a tight finish.
Meanwhile, the Cleveland Cavaliers will be kicking themselves after dropping a winnable game against the Knicks in the series opener on Saturday. Donovan Mitchell led the team with 38 points and eight assists, Darius Garland added 17 points on seven of 13 shooting while Jarrett Allen chipped in with 14 points, 14 rebounds and four assists. As a team, the Cavaliers shot 43 percent from the field and 10 of 31 from the 3-point line as they rode the hot hand of Mitchell to hang in the contest, until the third quarter where the Knicks started to pull away. The Cavaliers only had three players finish in double figures in scoring and they could've done with more from Evan Mobley who scored just eight points on four of 13 shooting and Isaac Okoro scored just six points on one of six shooting.
Looking at the betting trends, the Knicks are 37-15-1 ATS in their last 53 road games, 3-0-1 ATS in their last four games against a team with a winning record and 5-2-1 ATS in their last eight games overall. The Cavaliers are 0-4 ATS in their last four home games, 1-5 ATS in their last six games against a team with a winning record and 1-4-1 ATS in their last six games overall.
Head to head, the Knicks are 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings overall and the Knicks are 6-2 ATS in the last eight meetings in Cleveland.
The Knicks are still missing Isaiah Roby and they have Josh Hart listed as doubtful, while the Cavaliers are still without Dylan Windler. The Knicks were able to hang in the contest and finally go on that run in the fourth quarter to escape with the important road win, but the Cavaliers will surely come out swinging, especially Garland who was quiet on Saturday. It's tempting to take the Knicks with the points, but the Cavaliers desperately need this win and I think they'll bounce back in this spot.
