The Charlotte Hornets invade the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse to battle the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday afternoon.
The Charlotte Hornets have been in a rut as they’ve lost five of their last eight games and they will be hoping to avoid a fifth straight defeat after getting beaten by the lowly Rockets in a 112-109 loss on Friday. Svi Mykhailiuk led the team with 25 points and five assists, Theo Maledon added 22 points with eight assists and five steals while Bryce McGowens chipped in with 16 points. As a team, the Hornets shot 43 percent from the field and 13 of 41 from the 3-point line as they struggled for most of the contest to fall behind by 14 points, before they exploded for 36 points in the fourth quarter which was all too little, too late.
Meanwhile, the Cleveland Cavaliers have been in great shape as they’ve won seven of their last nine games overall and they will be gunning for a third straight victory after making light work of the Magic in a 118-94 road win on Thursday. Danny Green led the team with 21 points on eight of 14 shooting off the bench, Cedi Osman added 19 points on seven of 11 shooting while Isaiah Mobley chipped in with 18 points off the bench. As a team, the Cavaliers shot 52 percent from the field and 18 of 38 from the 3-point line as they looked to be in trouble when they allowed the Magic to pour in 42 points in the first quarter, but they kept clamped down defensively and held the Magic to just 31 points in the second and third quarters combined to set up the dominant win.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hornets are 4-1 ATS in their last five road games and 1-4 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record. The Cavaliers are 13-4-1 ATS in their last 18 Sunday games, 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a losing record and 9-3-2 ATS in their last 14 games against a team below. 400.
Head to head, the over is 5-2 in the last seven meetings overall and the Hornets are 5-1-1 ATS in the last seven meetings in Cleveland.
The Hornets are still missing LaMelo Ball, wile the Cavaliers will be without Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland, Isaac Okoro and Dylan Windler. The offseason just can’t come soon enough for the Hornets who have lost four straight and are coming into this one fresh off a loss to the lowly Rockets. The Cavaliers are missing a bunch of their best players, but I think they have enough to get the win and cover at home.
