The Miami Heat and the Washington Wizards collide at the Capital One Arena on Friday night.
The Miami Heat have been in pretty good shape as they’ve won five of their last eight games and they will be gunning for a fourth straight victory after making light work of the 76ers in a 129-101 road win last night. Jimmy Butler led the team with 24 points and six assists on nine of 12 shooting, Tyler Herro added 24 points with five assists while Bam Adebayo and Max Strus scored 14 points each. As a team, the Heat shot 55 percent from the field and 18 of 39 from the 3-point line as they set the tone with 41 points in the first quarter, before they restricted the 76ers to just 15 points in the second quarter to take a 21-point lead into halftime and set up the easy victory.
Meanwhile, the Washington Wizards have been in a slump as they’ve lost nine of their last 11 games overall and they will be hoping to snap a four-game slide after getting routed by the Hawks in a 134-116 road loss on Wednesday. Daniel Gafford led the team with 25 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks, Johnny Davis added 20 points with seven rebounds and three assists while Kendrick Nunn chipped in with 15 points off the bench. As a team, the Wizards shot 47 percent from the field and just six of 28 from the 3-point line, but they were poor on the defensive end and simply got outpaced from start to finish to suffer another double-digit loss.
Looking at the betting trends, the Heat are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 road games, 9-23-1 ATS in their last 33 games against a team with a losing record and 9-19 ATS in their last 28 games overall. The Wizards are 4-1 ATS in their last five games following a loss and 5-0-1 ATS in their last six games playing on one days rest.
Head to head, the over is 4-1 in the last five meetings overall, the Heat are 28-11-2 ATS in the last 41 meetings in Washington and the Heat are 3-0-1 ATS in the last four meetings overall.
The Heat will again be shorthanded as Kyle Lowry is still out, while the Wizards are still without a list of players including Bradley Beal, Kristaps Porzingis and Kyle Kuzma. The Heat are coming into this game with plenty of winning momentum and they are predictably road favorites even though they are playing their second game of a back to back set. The Wizards have really struggled without their star players and I don’t see any reason that won’t continue in this matchup. The Heat are 28-11-2 ATS in the last 41 meetings in Washington and I think that trend continues in this spot.
