The Portland Trail Blazers and the San Antonio Spurs collide at the AT&T Center on Thursday night.
The Portland Trail Blazers have been in a real slump as they’ve lost 12 of their last 14 games overall and they will be hoping to bounce back after getting beaten by the Grizzlies in a 119-109 road loss on Tuesday. Skylar Mays led the team with 24 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, Shaedon Sharpe added 20 points with eight rebounds and six assists while Jabari Walker chipped in with 16 points off the bench. As a team, the Trail Blazers shot 43 percent from the field and 14 of 42 from the 3-point line as they worked hard to erase an early 19-point deficit, only to go ice-cold when it mattered most, scoring just 14 points in the fourth quarter to allow the Grizzlies off the hook in the end.
Meanwhile, the San Antonio Spurs have been in a slump as they’ve lost seven of their last eight games overall and they will be hoping for a better performance after getting scorched by the Suns in a 115-94 road loss on Tuesday. Malaki Branham led the team with 21 points, Tre Jones added 20 points with nine assists while Keita Bates-Diop chipped in with 13 points. As a team, the Spurs shot just 38 percent from the field and 13 of 40 from the 3-point line as they got off to a slow start and were always fighting an uphill battle after getting outscored by 42-25 in the first quarter. Doug McDermott had a night to forget as he scored just two points on one of seven shooting while Blake Wesley finished scoreless on zero of eight shooting off the bench.
Looking at the betting trends, the Trail Blazers are 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a losing record and 7-0 ATS in their last seven games against a team below .400. The Spurs are 7-22 ATS in their last 29 games against a team with a losing record and 9-24 ATS in their last 33 games overall.
Head to head, the over is 9-3 in the last 12 meetings in San Antonio and the Trail Blazers are 2-5 ATS in the last seven meetings overall.
The Trail Blazers are still missing a bunch of players including Jusuf Nurkic, Damian Lillard, Anfernee Simons and Matisse Thybulle, while the Spurs are missing Zach Collins, Jeremy Sochan and Doug McDermott. You really couldn’t back either side with much confidence and the injuries on both sides really makes this one tough to pick. With that being said, the Trail Blazers’ role players showed plenty of fight in their loss on Tuesday and I think they can go one better in this one.
