The Houston Rockets and the New York Knicks collide at Madison Square Garden on Monday night.
The Houston Rockets have been in a real slump as they’ve lost eight of their last 11 games overall and they will be hoping to snap a five-game slide after getting thrashed by the Cavaliers in a 108-91 road loss last night. Jalen Green led the team with 30 points on 10 of 17 shooting, Alperen Sengun added 14 points with eight rebounds and four assists while Kenyon Martin Jr. chipped in with 13 points on six of eight shooting. As a team, the Rockets shot 43 percent from the field and six of 25 from the 3-point line as they struggled to keep up right from the start and had to use a 37-point third quarter to cut into a 20-point deficit, only to get blown out in the fourth quarter where they managed just 11 points.
Meanwhile, the New York Knicks have been in a rut as they’ve lost six of their last nine games overall and they will be hoping to arrest a three-game skid after coming up short against the Magic in a 111-106 road loss on Thursday. Immanuel Quickley and Quentin Grimes each scored 25 points while Julius Randle tallied 23 points with nine rebounds and four assists. As a team, the Knicks shot just 42 percent from the field and 12 of 40 from the 3-point line as they got off to a slow start and scored just 45 points in the first half to trail by as many as 19 points which proved too much to overcome despite rallying with 36 points in the fourth quarter to make it interesting at the end.
Looking at the betting trends, the Rockets are 7-19 ATS in their last 26 road games, 2-7 ATS in their last nine games against a team with a winning record and 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall. The Knicks are 6-2-1 ATS in their last nine home games, 3-1-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a losing record and 9-3-1 ATS in their last 13 games overall.
Head to head, the over is 11-4-1 in the last 16 meetings overall, the Rockets are 1-6 ATS in the last seven meetings overall and the Rockets are 9-3 ATS in the last 12 meetings in New York.
The Rockets will again be missing Jae’Sean Tate, while the Knicks are keeping an eye on Jalen Brunson who is questionable for this one. The Rockets have gone cold again with five losses on the trot and they are coming into this one fresh off a blowout loss to the Cavaliers. The Knicks have been well below their best lately, but they were close against the Magic and they should be well-rested as they haven’t played since Thursday. The Rockets are only 1-6 ATS in the last seven meetings overall and I think that trend continues here as the Knicks should have more than enough to make light work of this Rockets squad.
