The San Antonio Spurs travel to the Capital One Arena to battle the Washington Wizards on Friday night.
The San Antonio Spurs have been in a rut as they’ve lost four of their last five games overall and they will be hoping to snap a two-game skid after getting thrashed by the Bucks in a 130-94 road loss on Wednesday. Devin Vassell led the team with 16 points, Keita Bates-Diop added 14 points while Jeremy Sochan chipped in with 13 points. As a team, the Spurs shot just 38 percent from the field and nine of 39 from the 3-point line as they struggled to find their offense and got outscored in every quarter to suffer yet another massive defeat. Blake Wesley had a night to forget as he scored just six points on two of 12 shooting off the bench.
Meanwhile, the Washington Wizards have been in a slump of their own as they’ve lost seven of their last eight games overall and they will be hoping to arrest a four-game slide after getting routed by the Nuggets in a 118-104 loss on Wednesday. Kristaps Porzingis led the team with 25 points on 11 of 17 shooting in 22 minutes of action, Deni Avdija added 16 points with eight rebounds and six assists while Jordan Goodwin chipped in with 12 points off the bench. As a team, the Wizards shot 50 percent from the field and just four of 26 from the 3-point line as they kept pace with the Nuggets early in the contest to take the narrow lead into halftime, before they got completely blown off the floor by 39-16 in a nightmare of a third quarter to trail by as many as 23 points.
Looking at the betting trends, the Spurs are 8-24 ATS in their last 32 road games, 7-20 ATS in their last 27 games against a team with a losing record and 7-20 ATS in their last 27 games overall. The Wizards are 2-5 ATS in their last seven home games, 11-5 ATS in their last 16 games against a team with a losing record and 0-4 ATS in their last four games overall.
Head to head, the over is 9-1-1 in the last 11 meetings in Washington, the Spurs are 11-4 ATS in the last 15 meetings in Washington and the Spurs are 24-8 ATS in the last 32 meetings overall.
The Spurs could be shorthanded once again as Zach Collins, Keldon Johnson and Devin Vassell are all questionable, while the Wizards will again be missing Kyle Kuzma and Bradley Beal. You really couldn’t back either team with much confidence these days as both teams are banged up and playing poorly at the moment. Looking at the betting trends, the Spurs are 24-8 ATS in the last 32 meetings overall and 11-4 ATS in the last 15 meetings in Washington, so I’m leaning towards them to get the cover in this spot.
