The Houston Rockets and the Memphis Grizzlies duke it out once again at the FedExForum on Friday night.
The Houston Rockets have been in a funk as they’ve lost six of their last nine games overall and they will be hoping to arrest a three-game slide after falling just short to the Grizzlies in a 130-125 road loss on Wednesday. Kenyon Martin Jr. led the team with 31 points on 12 of 18 shooting, Jalen Green led the scoring with 32 points on 10 of 18 shooting, Alperen Sengun scored 25 points while Kevin Porter Jr. racked up a triple-double of 14 points with 10 rebounds and 10 assists. As a team, the Rocket shot 51 percent from the field and 12 of 33 from the 3-point line, but their problems were on the defensive end as they allowed 75 points in the first half to fall behind by 13 points, before they made a bit of a run in the fourth quarter to make things interesting at the end.
Meanwhile, the Memphis Grizzlies have been in red-hot form as they’ve won seven of their last eight games overall and they will be gunning for a fifth straight victory after sneaking past the Rockets on Wednesday. Jaren Jackson Jr led the team with 37 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks, Desmond Bane added 20 points with seven assists while Ja Morant chipped in with 17 points and five assists in 22 minutes of action off the bench. As a team, the Grizzlies shot 51 percent from the field and 12 of 36 from the 3-point line as they stormed out of the gates with 75 points in the first half, before things tightened up in the fourth quarter where the Rockets made a late run.
Looking at the betting trends, the Rockets are 5-13 ATS in their last 18 road games, 6-15 ATS in their last 21 games against a team with a winning record and 5-2-1 ATS in their last eight games overall. The Grizzlies are 42-19-2 ATS in their last 63 home games, 5-11 ATS in their last 16 games against a team with a losing record and 1-3-1 ATS in their last five games overall.
The Rockets are shorthanded again as Jae’Sean Tate is still out, while the Grizzlies are still missing Steven Adams and Ziaire Williams. The Rockets have been one of the coldest teams in the league, but they were good enough to get the cover against the Grizzlies on Wednesday and I think they can do it again with the line set at double digits. Give me the Grizzlies to get the win at home, but give me the Rockets to hang around right till the end.
