The Dallas Mavericks play host to the Charlotte Hornets at the American Airlines Center on Friday night.
The Charlotte Hornets have been in poor form as they’ve lost five of their last six games overall and they will be hoping for a better performance after getting routed by the Pelicans in a 115-96 road loss last night. PJ Washington led the team with 18 points on seven of 20 shooting, Svi Mykhailiuk added 15 points off the bench while Gordon Hayward chipped in with 12 points and six assists. As a team, the Hornets shot 45 percent from the field and nine of 37 from the 3-point line as they allowed the Pelicans off to a flyer with 37 points in the first quarter and things only got worse in the fourth quarter where they scored just 15 points to allow the Pelicans to run away with it.
Meanwhile, the Dallas Mavericks have been in a real funk as they’ve lost five of their last seven games overall and they will be hoping to snap a two-game skid after falling just short to the Warriors in controversial 127-125 loss on Wednesday. Luka Doncic led the team with 30 points and 17 assists, Jaden Hardy added 27 points off the bench while Christian Wood chipped in with 19 points. As a team, the Mavericks shot 49 percent from the field and 17 of 40 from the 3-point line as they went back and forth with the Warriors in a close contest, until the fourth quarter where the Warriors were able to slip away behind free throws down the stretch.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hornets are 1-4 ATS in their last five Friday games. The Mavericks are 2-5 ATS in their last seven home games, 7-21-1 ATS in their last 29 games against a team with a losing record and 3-0-1 ATS in their last four games overall.
Head to head, the under is 4-1 in the last five meetings in Dallas and the Hornets are 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings in Dallas.
The Hornets are still shorthanded as LaMelo Ball is out for the season, while the Mavericks are keeping eyes on Tim Hardaway Jr and Kyrie Irving who are both questionable. The Hornets have really been struggling lately and it’ll be tough for them to get up for this one after last night’s big loss to the Pelicans. The Mavericks have yet to find their groove, but they were close to beating the Warriors in their last outing and I think they can get the job done here with Doncic back on the court.
